It seems as though bidding online with Stacks...

is just as bad as Bowers and Merena. The one lot I bid on went to the internet, but the site doesn't show it was me or not and a call to the office refers me back to the site! image Heritage online rocks! image

  • Glad I'm not alone in my feelings as I don't want to sound like a cry baby, but I just don't understand how large auction houses can try to compete with such shabby and outdated online services.

I love when people gripe about Heritage, but it is 100% better than Stacks. I cannot tell you how many times watching the auction that they had to re-open lots because bids came in but were not recorded due to some glitch or another.

As for me, I bid on only two pieces, but Russian this time.

  • I saw the same thing, watching online. Many lots were reopened. It was sickening how often it happened. Anyway, there was some very nice Russian material. I hope you won what you bid on and can't wait to see pics!

There are still a lot of auction houses that have 19th or 20th century technology for online bidders. If Heritage had better pictures, they would have a top notch model (as it is, it is still very good).

I placed bids on two coins at a well-known British auction house for a Jan 5th auction and have absolutely no idea if I won or what the realized prices are. C'mon, guys, get with the program!!

If you are referring to the Croydon Coin Auction on 5th Jan, the prices are posted on the site in Excel form. Their sales in the church hall have always been a bit parochial.

On the auction front, it was nice to see recently that Dix Noonan Web updated their site, and they are now at the apex of 1990's hi tech.image

  • I just spoke to Jennifer with the NH office and explained my frustration with the online bidding. She was very sympathetic and thanked me for giving her some constructive criticism about the site (yes, I kept the complaining down to a minimum). She is going to have someone get back to me about my one bid (although I've resigned myself to the idea that my bid didn't even register on the site). Hopefully, if enough folks call and voice their opinions, some changes will occur image. I'll do the waiting game to find out the outcome but not holding out any hope at this point about lot 1106. BTW, a cheap price for such an outstanding coin.

Actually I will say that for Stacks, when they have goofed, which they do, they always have owned up to it. In an auction a bit over a year ago, one of the lots was missing when I opened the package and I was p*ssing my breeches with worry since it was this:

But they found it shuffled under some other stuff and FEDEX'ed to me and I had it the following day. Also I got several apologies on up the line for the goof.

I don't collect many USA coins, but when I do, they gotta be seksay.
