NYINC Report
I got to the show a little before opening today and stayed until about 2pm. Finally got to meet our own Mr. Eureka and also James Ricks from NEN. Todays pickups included the 1865 Hannover Proof Thaler that NEN was holding for me, and an 1807 George III 1/2d in 66 Brown. This is my first trip to NYINC, but I woud say it is busy, the Starlight room was crowded and difficult to move around in the whole time I was there. The smaller side rooms seemed to be full of buyers also so I hope the dealers were having a good show. I plan to get back over tomorrow for a few more hours to look at medals and see what I can buy.

Coins that I saw-
I mostly look for British Crowns- I was not able to find ones that I really need. Baldwins had a very attractive 1700 which was easily in the 63-64 range- I thought their asking price was over 3200 quid which is what? 5500 dollars or so? Based on recent auction catalog estimates and results- perhaps the price was reasonable. I also looked at a 1935 Proof Crown that was as cameo as they come- I thought there were just enough distractions if one were buying to submit. I also looked at a 1731 1/2 Crown- a nice coin but seemed to lack the lustre.
There was some hammered- didn't look very close- however, what I saw was not what I consider high grade.
I managed to buy a red 1907 1d as well as a 1909. They seem to be good enough for my collection- They will both likely stay raw.
The nicest coins I bought were from Mexico- including 2 beautiful 8R Coins that are vacationing in California. I managed to submit some Canadian, British, Mexico and even one from Cuba- results on those should be interesting.
I did see MrEureka and sought his expert opinion on a 1953 Canadian Dollar- hopefully, he will enlighten us as to his impressions of the show.
Overall- many nice coins- decent traffic- and a nice venue even though the area within the bourse seemed packed. Going to the Wladorf is always a pleasure- NY architecture from the Art Deco/Art Moderne period is really eye catching.

Next stop was Karl Stephen's table where quite a bit of buying, selling and trading was occurring. I bought several Canadian tokens, a couple of silver decimals, and 4 lovely cherry red small cents (1935, 1938, 1940, 1947) and a shimmering red/brown 1941 Newfie cent.
There were lots of British hammered and milled coins especially gold in the dealers cases. South American 8 reales were well represented. Quite a bit of German from all eras was present. Art and commerative medals were abundant with Don Young having many beautiful examples.
I picked a few odds + ends Canadian tokens and Large cents along the way with my last purchase made at Jeff Zarit's table a nice R+B unc 1859 Canadian large cent that upon further review today at home is one of the minor rengraved date varietes.
The only board members I saw were MrEureka (Andy Lustig) and Coinkat (Bob). Bob and I found a quiet corner and compared coins and thoughts on grading, the show, the auction, etc. He has some beautiful Canadian $'s a few he was wavering on for submittal. I am curious to learn of the opinion on that wide rim 1953 he showed to Andy.
I brought my bagged 1952 25c with me to ask PCGS where the damage was. The fella at the table was unable to help so I took Bob's advice and brought it to Andy Lustig for his opinion. It took him about 4 seconds to spot what he called a counting wheel mark on the neck/cheek of the coin and he spotted it without using a loupe. It wasn't until this morning that I finally saw what he and PCGS did it is a small patch of parallel lines that when tilted just so with the right lighting shows as a color change. I had notice the lines before but had thought they were die polish because they don't extend into the field. Needless to say Andy's got a great eye and I highly recommend him.
Really enjoyed the show as usual and can hardly wait till next year (Jan 7, 2011).

I did have a great chat with Gene- he showed me his purchases, including the 1952 Quarter- that was not a new purchase from the show but had a questionable issue with damage and I did not see anything that would lead me to believe it should not grade-
MrEureka gave the thumbs down on the 1953 in terms of it being anything special. The problem with some of these Canadian Dollars is that some of the early die struck coins can have very deep mirrors. I'm not too surprised not disappointed.
I also forgot to mention I stopped by Harlan Berk's table and was pleased with the coins I bought there-
It would have been great to catch up with afew more board members

That was cheaper than visiting the show in New York, I do confirm the Wardorph is a great hotel. Now wonder if the UK dealers will bring anything home with them - anyone any idea how the prices were in the Heretage Auction which sported a load of UK coins etc.....
No mention from anyone reference Ancients?

Here's the link to the English/British prices realised. (covers hammered through E2 milled).
Edited to add: You'll have to register or log-in to see the winning bid prices.
Quality material exceeded expectations- marginal coins brought marginal prices.
