Raw Card Review Sunday-NICE scans-Grades popped

In line with Burgundy's Raw Card Saturday that was started many months ago, I'd like to start a "Raw Card Review Sunday". Most, if not all of my favorite posts involve someone's raw card "finds". To make a long story short, I met an older(65ish) genteleman a couple of years ago at a card show in a local retirement community that's minutes from my house. I've since bought several nice commons from him and even a nice raw NM star or two. Fast forward a couple of years and I've been to his house the last 2 weekends to look at cards(mostly commons) for my '65-'67 sets. He has recently joined PSA but is a little apprehensive about sending his cards off. He has complete Topps sets from '68-'90. He also has the following sets: '53 Topps, '48 Bowman, '54 Bowman & '65 Topps. Well, yesterday after some discussion we decided that I'd submit some cards for him under the current $5 PSA special. We decided to start with his "lower value" cards and he said his '69 set was in pretty good shape. I'm subbmitting the cards under my membership. As of now, he has no intent to sell. The rest is history, check the scans and wish him well. I'll add more info. later as some replies come in. The cards that look to have great chances at 9s are '65 AL RBI Ldrs., '69 Brock, '69 Bench and '70 Reggie. The other '65s & '69s I posted here are definitely 8 or 8.5 quality. I'll need expert opinion on the '54 Bowman Campanella. I only got to purchase some "mintish" '57, '59 & '60 commons but it was a very fun day.

That would be fantastic to have someone like that nearby.
Even if you can't purchase, it's great to see his cards. Did he put these together in the years of issue? He kept them in great shape.

Good luck on the Brock, but I think the Bench and Fingers have the best shot at 9. The AL leaders is a little OC for 9, same for the 70 Reggie, probably a 7 to 8.

If that 1969 Brock is a PSA 8 it's a grand slam. There aren't many that are as well centered as yours. Good luck.

Those are some sweet cards. Like Nam said; That 69 Brock looks stunning as well as the Bench. The 65 Hunter looks high end also. That 50 Bowman football card appears mint and crazy clean. Otwcards--Is that a star or a common? Either way, nice card. All cards in this thread should be graded. Good Luck.

Assuming there the corners are as sharp as they appears and there are no other flaws:

68 Super Stars - PSA 6
69 Jackson - PSA 8 OC
69 Brock - PSA 8 (tough card in this grade)
69 Clemente - PSA 7
69 Bench - PSA 8.5
69 Fingers - PSA 8
69 RBI Leaders - PSA 8
69 Rose - PSA 7.5
69 Aaron - PSA 7

The '50 Bowman is Mac Speedie's RC. He should be in the Hall of Fame, but since he had words with Paul Brown and went to the CFL, he got blacklisted as well as being overshadowed on the great Browns teams of the era. Take a look at his stats and you can see he was one of the greatest WR's in NFL history at the time he played. He is every bit as worthy of the Hall as Dante Lavelli and was a 6-time All Pro.

nice stuff you guys.....nothin' could be finer than to be a 69er.....a sampling of future visitors to the Slab-O-Rama for additions to my set....especially stoked with the Reynolds and hoping for a tough 8 on Gagliano.

I agree regarding that 69 Brock, if it 8's it is a grand slam indeed.

Short story, 4 or 5 yrs ago someone put one up on Ebay using BIN for 50.00

It sold withing 10 minutes of it being listed. IIRC the person that bought it flipped it

for 500.00 dollars or more soon after. I think only 1 has been graded 9 and our own Gaspipe

either bought it or had it graded and sold it. Not sure.

Nice cards if I was the guy I'd be sending in cards with value, ones that when the day comes and he or whoever

sells them the job has already been done. A 15 voucher submission comes with the platinum membership now with the benefit being

he will have his cards back within 3 weeks from the day he sends them out. Well worth it IMO.

Poppage... Looks like I was pretty close on all of them, even a little too conservative on a couple. As usual I can't grade the '68s. I have NO clue why the '69 Brock is a 6, can't believe that.
