To Open Or Not To Open...That Is The Question **1977 Football Rip**

I was fortunate to receive two vending boxes as part of my Secret Santa gift this year. One is a vending box of 1982 Topps baseball and the other is a vending box of 1977 Topps football. Both are from BBCE, wrapped in plastic, with the BBCE slip still with it. So...do I: A) Keep both boxes sealed; B) Open both of them; C) Open one of them and if so, which one?

You are going to ask THAT question to THIS board? HAHAHAHAHA Let 'er RIP!!!

Edited to add: '82 BB you really have only one good card ... '77 FB there are quite a few! If you are looking to send into PSA and then sell, I'd have to go with ripping the FB. GOOD LUCK and enjoy no matter what you choose!

  • I would keep them sealed. The BBCE label adds enough value for me not to open them.

I think the '82 Topps is a no brainer to rip. Plenty of that stuff around.

Like Doug said, if you ask that question on this board, we're almost all gonna say rip!

77FB can yield some real nice hits.....of course, if you wind up with a boxload of miscuts only barfvader will be delighted

What is your reason for opening? Are you planning on putting together a raw set? Do you want to send cards for slabbing for your personal collection, or for resale?

The only reason that I would open them is to put a set together for my personal collection and have the key cards from the set graded. No way I would ever sell a gift that was sent to me.

While I did not get a Ripken, I did have a blast opening this box. It has inspired me to put together the 1982 set. Here are some more cards, I will scan more later as I have to go snowblow the driveway for the 3rd time today:

Crap! He sent me one too that I have not opened. If you had no Ripken that improves the chances of mine having one if they were from the same case.

Well if I got no Ripken cards then that MUST mean you did...Rip it, rip it good!

The two Simpson cards were the first two in the box and have no damage at all. These four cards are from the first stack of 25 or so. These cards are incredible.

Here ya go. While some cards may be off center or have print issues, none of them have any issues as far as dings etc that are typical with vending boxes. I will post more scans later tonight or tomorrow. This was a trip down memory lane for me. Wow, thank you again Trent. You rock!

  • Figures you get nice centering on the box and the best rookie is OC.

The 76 AFC Championship was played in Oakland, the card shown is in Pittsburgh.

  • Geez, to bad about the Largent. Great Simpsons though.
  • TheThrill22TheThrill22 Posts: 976 ✭✭✭
It doesn't bother me at all about the Largent being OC. There are a lot of people who don't even have a Largent. These cards took me back to when I was 12 years old and my Mom would buy me packs. She liked the design of the 1977's and we would open our packs at the kitchen table. Her favorite card? Boobie Clark...no joke! My Mom passed in 2000 so opening this box was quite emotional for me. I cannot express my thanks to Trent enough for sending it to me. While I still have some of my 77's, they aren't in the greatest of shape. This has inspired me to put the set together for me AND my Mom.

Last BBCE group rip we had 1978 Topps football. I pulled a Dorsett RC that was OC and was thrilled to have it. As a Cowboys fan, he was my 2nd favorite player at the time (Staubach was #1 becaue my mom loved him).
  • I have a few 1970 and 1973 topps baseball cards that are not much better then beaters . I enjoy them because they were the first "old cards" i
owned . My cousin traded me his baseball cards for the football cards i had.

One of these days i need to collect these sets raw.

Thanks guys for the kind words. I enjoy all the rips on this board and it was fun for me to have one...and not a rip from too much Taco Bell either! None of the cards are or will be for sale but I will be looking for cards to complete the sets. I am going to tackle the 1977 football first.
