No one is challenging the Lakers out of the west. The East is more wide open than it looks. My Celtics will win it if they don't get bit by a major injury. Then it's a 6-7 game bloodbath for the title.
There are a lot of interesting stories right now though.
- Can the Hawks sneak into the conference finals? Not out of the realm of possibility. But I still think Orlando and Cleveland fight it out for the 2nd slot.
- Are Tyreke Evans and Brandon Jennings the first franchise-player rookies to go almost completely unnoticed by the media? Both of them have atrocious teams hovering around .500.
- The Sixers being that bad with Young, Igoudala, Brand and Iverson is a joke. Any team with those 4 guys should be challenging .500
- Brook Lopez is having a fantastic season for a dreadful Nets team.
- Dallas is a lot better than I thought. They may squeeze into the West finals.
- Al Jefferson is not the same guy for Minnesota
- If Miami trades Dwayne Wade (looking WAY more likely that 3 weeks ago), where does he go? Do the Knicks sabotage their LeBron plans or him? You know who has assets to get him? The LA Clippers. Only 2-3 teams really do.
This has been a really entertaining season so far.

Most suprising this year is the Alanta Hawks and they still cant get anyone to come to their games.

<< <i>I didn't think there were more than 4-5 NBA fans here - and the lack of a dedicated NBA thread on the Sports Talk Forum kind of drove that point home. But since you mentioned it...

VitoCo -- great color and commentary!!
I just want to state my allegiance to the New York Knicks!! I know, it's been painful, but I still love them...
I actually think Jennings has been getting his fair share of press. I've heard ESPN talk about his "double nickel" a bunch of times. Also did a good recap yesterday of the leagues top rookies. There is some real talent in this year's class, and the press is starting to pick up on it... What do you think about this year's rookie class? You buying any 09/10 basketball product? What do you like??
What are your thoughts on where Lebron and Wade go? If I were Lebron (i'm only about a foot and a half and 100 lbs away from that) I would seriously look into teaming up w/ wade somewhere. Miami seems like an ideal location, but salary cap will be an issue. I guess Chicago (or NY?? PLEASE!!) could work too. The Cav's suck w/ out James, so I'm thinking he's out of there either way...

Thanks for watching. Hope you enjoyed!!
- I would encourage all collectors to post a video of their collection - I have found it to be a very rewarding way to share my sports cards!!
Most of these people are college bball fans and rather watch that. I would rather see the best play night in and night out. There is a good game every night in the NBA. It seems boring to many because they are so good at what they do.
I love both NCAA and NBA but they are 2 totally different things.
Sure, some of the NBA teams seem really bad right now, but there is a youth movement and this year's free agency will be the most exciting off-season in the history of the NBA.

<< <i>I like the NBA. I am a Knicks fan and still watch. Most of the people that say the NBA is horrible, 1 on 1, etc aren't or would never be NBA fans.

Go Raptors, was just buying some tickets as a gift a few minutes ago...
I can't remember a year with so many immediately impactful rookies -- maybe the age requirement is having a positive effect.
If you get a chance to see Tyreke Evans play -- take a minute (I know the Kings aren't on national tv that often) -- he is an absolute stud. He looks like a man playing against boys. He pushes other guards around like Magic used to -- I had no idea how big and physical he was until I saw him play -- and he's very skilled.

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

I agree wholeheartedly about Evans. The funny thing is that they have another nice rookie in Omri Casspi. That team is set up to be REALLY good in 2-3 years. If Kevin Martin can stay healthy with those two guys and 1-2 draft picks - watch out. Also, They have assets to move to contenders. Udrich and Hawes (maybe) are expendable pieces that they could trade to a contending team for an extra draft pick.
The NBA is funny in comparison to the other 3 major sports. To follow it, you can spend less time than all the others and still be up on it. All you have to do is watch Inside the NBA on TNT Thursday nights - catch an occasional Sportscenter and follow your team in the box score or on TV. Don't get me wrong, I follow baseball and football rabidly too, but I always feel like I need to spend more time (and do) to be as well versed in what's going on.
In terms of other stuff happening in the Association...
I love the way Nowitzki is playing. Don't get me wrong, I think Kobe is the league's best player through 2 months, but with apologies to LeBron, Dirk is second. That team could easily have caved in after a couple disappointing playoffs, but he has made them mesh together with Marion. Kidd is seemingly ageless and Dampier is having a quietly good season.
There is no more fun team to watch in the NBA than the Atlanta Hawks. Every player seems like they could go for 30 on a given night and it feels like a college team on steroids - all high fliers and three point shooters. Watch them play if you haven't.
I finally saw Vince Carter take a game off for Orlando the other night - he looked totally disinterested. With no real leader on the team (Howard/Nelson are too young to lead and Lewis can't after a 10 game suspension), I am suspicious of him getting bored later in the season when they have the 2 seed locked up and not being able to turn it back on in May. Stay tuned
I'm stealing this from Bill Simmons column today, but it's true...Steve Nash has officially made the "D'Antoni's offense made Nash what he is" argument a bunch o bull. Nash made D'Antoni and he's proving it every night. Unfortunately I still think that guy is due for a major injury one of these days but I hop not.
Seriously, if you're bored, watch an NBA game. This is the deepest and most entertaining NBA since the 1989 expansion.
