Buyer claimed item not received yet DC shows otherwise?! Should I worry about a claim?

...got a message today from an Ebay user......the typical, "Has this shipped out yet?"......I sent all my items with delivery confirmation and insurance. According to the tracking number, this guys item (An Ernie Banks Hartland figurine), was received last week.....has anyone noticed an increase in buyer fraud on Ebay lately????

    Sorry....didn't mean to push this as a light thread.....if I purchase insurance and delivery confirmation, do I still have to worry about a PayPal claim, or am I covered?

    You're covered. DC shows it's delivered. End of story.

    If you add delivery confirmation and insurance for less than $200 there's no signature so a mail carrier could deliver it "somewhere" and yet the buyer still didn't get it.


    This time of year USPS, UPS and FedEx are all understaffed and in a hurry. At USPS they sometimes use subs, clerks, postmasters or whoever they can to get packages delivered. Sometimes they make mistakes. If the item requires a signature there's a better chance it ends up at the right house.

    I've had quite a few in the last couple of months. Each one admitted it was an oversight on their part when I sent them the DC #.

    jimq112 brings up a good point. PayPal requires signature confirmation above a certain dollar level. If you skipped that part, you could have an issue. DC won't be sufficient.

    You will prevail in a PP INR-claim.

    You should help the buyer initiate the USPS INS-claim.

    Your INS claim will be looked at and will likely be paid.

    The USPS is WELL aware that MANY of the relief carriers
    are TOTALLY incompetent. Even the regular carriers can
    make a mistake; though it is relatively rare. DC does not
    obviate the USPS INS.

    (NOTE: The so called "private insurance" used by some
    large card-sellers will NOT accept an INR-claim, if the DC
    ticket shows the item was delivered. The USPS INS is a
    MUCH superior product.)

    Buyer fraud is at an all time high, on EBAY.

    EVERYTHING should be shipped with DC.

    Or, since you have insurance you can always file for it.

    Regardless if the item needed Sig Conf. to satisfy PP or DC.


    I'd simply email my customer with the pertinent info.

    If he still claims he did not get it, and DC is what was needed, then I'd simply tell the guy that I'd be

    sending the Postal forms for his signature. And that a postal inspector might have to interview him.

    I personally have not seen an increase in fraud attempts, although I read posts here all the time about it happening so I'm well aware it's huge on the bay. What I have witnessed is an increase in the buyers who have zero patience for the postal system to do it's job. I'm talking about a complete impatience with following along with the tracking number and sending emails that they know darn well I can't answer as a seller about the status of their package. They also love to complain about slow delivery, but they are the ones who choose Parcel Post with a large heavy box at the busiest time of the year for the postal season and wonder why it took 7 days.

    PP requires a signature if the item is $250 or more. If it is under $250, I am led to believe DC will suffice??

    Easy to solve that.

    Simply STOP allowing buyers to "choose" Parcel Post.

    I've had 2 this month about of maybe 80 sales.....when the usual rate should be what, 1 in 2000-3000. Both were under $5 cards so I didn't do the confirm and just sent replacements. So to answer the OP's questions....there appears to be an increase in buyer fraud on eBay lately.....from my experience. I always find it amusing/strange/weird or please add a better word, when someone wants to cheap or steal a $3 card from you.

    Most items stolen from retail stores are valued at less than $2.00;
    candy, gum, fruit, etc.

    People are NOT "basically good." The opposite is true.
