I am hereby officially declaring this gentleman's inherited coin collection a hoard!


It wasn't the 25 pounds of Irish pre-decimal pennies that pushed me over the edge on this...





















It's not the 100+ oz of Mexican Silver - mostly as 1953 5 Peso coins that does it...


















It's the 12 Churchill crowns in the hoard that seals the deal! image

    I never understood the general dislike of this coin.

    I find it a very well executed (please no puns) portrait that reflexs Churchill's personality via a painterly brushlike quality that is difficult to convey in a metalic medium.
    In truth I find it one of the better coins of the later half 20th century.

    If you have an exceptional high grade in that group of 12 I would be interested in it.

    If they all looked like the one pictured above, that would be one thing, but they have tendency to look washed out, dull, and lifeless, which when combined with the design, doesn't make for a good look.

    In truth, it is the subject that is not so appealing in terms of appearance, not artistic quality per se. I agree, the rendition is actually quite good - you should really see this in satin/matte proof format!
