Don't end auctions at 8:30 AM PST

Just browsing random cards on VCP and found this:

11/20/09 eBay Auction | Image rward2 0***1 5 $15.50

It's a 1981 Topps Joe Montana PSA 8. Thought it was an error in the VCP listing but it wasn't. Auction ended at 8:30 AM PST. VCP average is $86.72. Why can't I ever find these deals?

EDIT: Buyer sold it 2 weeks later - 12/3/09 eBay Listing | Image 10cal44 a***a BIN $99.99

Currently working on: Kurt Warner PSA 9 or 10

  • If you use VCP average as a purchase price, that means the 1st buyer could have bought a PSA 8 for $1.13.
  • That first auction wasn't during the search outtage, was it?

Horrible listing? New seller? I don't understand.
I thought I got lucky buying a lot of graded '86 fleer basketball - the title didn't list the inclusion of multiple stars and rookies...basically after selling the extra's I should nab Malone, Isiah, Mullin and the checklist in PSA 8 and still come out ahead.
Looking for rare Randy Moss rookies and autos, as well as '97 PMG Red Football cards for my set.

If you have time, listing errors really change final price a lot.

My favorite example was some guy had this in the title

    1980 TOPS LOT

Not only misspelled, but not an interesting description at all...it gets lost in with all the lots of 50 EX commons.

Looking at the auction, I found it had 7 Nolan Ryans as well as 2-3 each of Rose, Brett, Yount, Stargell, Murray, Yaz and others. No Hendersons as apparently he was saving those for himself. He never mentioned condition, but scans showed decent centering and they looked sharp on the corners. Bought the whole lot for $15 + $3 shipping. Got them in, they were at worst PSA 8. Sent a few in, got a few 9's back, including a Ryan for my collection.

Deals are out there, but more and more people are hunting for them, so fewer get through.
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY

The one I posted above had no errors. The pic wsan't the best but not too bad. How many East coast eBayers were looking for cards at 5:30 in the morning?

My bad. Coffee a little weak this morning.
  • If you think your coffee was a little weak this morning... just wait until you see one of my scans in a little bit for the hockey rip... apparently my eyeglasses were also a little weak image

I have found some good deals searching for "signature" rather than "auto" or "autograph"

I subbed a 1991 Ultra Ken Griffey one time because I thought it was Ken Griffey Jr.
