Is there a new ebay policy that I am unfamiliar with?

I doubt it. Here is a great email I just received from a zero feedback seller.

Hello,

I sincerely apologize however I was not aware of the new ebay policy of with holding funds until the item has been recieved. I understand the use of this policy, and think it is a great way to protect buyers. I currently do not have the funds available to ship the items until I get paid on Thursday. I would be more then happy to refund your money, or ship your item on thursday once I get paid. Again I sincerely apologize for the miscommunication. Please let me know which you would prefer.

Thank You,
xxxxxxxxxxx

Thankfully, it was followed up a couple hours later with:

Hello Buyer,

Please disregard the past message. I have located another way to get your items shipped and will have them shipped today for you to recieve them shortly. Please let me know if you have any questions,

Thank you again,
xxxxxx

  • New Ebayers typically get their paypal funds held on items over $20.00 for three weeks or until positive feedback is left. I think it only is in effect for a month or two on new sellers, after that everything is wide open for them

Yup, it's true. PP will hold his $$ until you leave positive feedback, or 21 days, something like that. It only affects new, low feedback sellers. The "vets" get their $$ instantly. He needed your $$ to pay for the postage most likely, but worked around it. He is tellling the truth. Good luck.

"...It only affects new, low feedback sellers..."

    /////////////////

Folks registered after January 2007, but that have less than 100 FB,
    are subject to the hold.

Certain merch cats are also subject to fund holds at PP.

    ..............

While PP can hold money for any reason - on any venue - they do
not generally hold funds on non-EBAY transactions.

    ...........

The policy makes it pretty clear that EBAY is always going to have
    trouble attracting new sellers.

Pawn shops everywhere are running TV ads that point out how
difficult it is to sell stuff profitably on EBAY.

The hold on funds makes EBAY pretty worthless to somebody
    who NEEDS money.

    .........................................

I have been on EBAY for more than 10-years.

I have lots of accounts and lots of FB.

In order to avoid the fund hold on designer-fashion and electronics,
I had to cut a deal with PP that involved opening a MM-account and
letting them pay me peasant interest on the balance.

I had someone send me a question through Ebay sometime last night on an item that ended today. I tried to respond this morning but got an Ebay response that since there was a bid and it was less than 12 hours left in the auction that I couldn't respond to the question. I had never heard of that happening.
