That would be me. Picked him in the 8th round, 93rd pick overall. He's a nice fit with Heatley and Parise on my team.

He is getting some help out in LA now with Smyth being signed as a FA over the summer. Plus some of the former Monarchs are starting to produce. Hope they can keep it up, they're 8-4 now and in 1st place.

    BTW, GREAT CARD!
  • Oh, sorry to hear about Kopitar, playing in LA has to suck for something.

Better luck to him when his contract is finished.

It could be worse-- he could be stuck in a rathole like Edmonton.

I should be so lucky...I have Getzlaf...

Eagle, what's up with that guy this season??? And Ryan? The way they manhandled the Sharks in the playoff last year I thought the kid had a shot at 40 goals this year.

Yeah Steve aka gameusedhoop has Kopitar, but somebody still managed to drop him out of 1st place in the standings. image

  • LA was built after Gretzky - but I could care less about any club after the original 6 + 6.

too many clubs in NHL. Coyotes are winning - who cares ? (sorry if its your team)

put another club back in Canada.

I dunno. Hopefully that top line is just in a bit of a slump
and they turn it around.....and soon. They're not going far
if those 3, Getzlaf, Ryan, and Perry aren't scoring.

Actually LA is one of the original 6+6, and actually I am still tied (in points) for 1st overall. image

You caught me the right week, the Rangers had won something like 8 straight, they were ready to lose a couple, and Lunqvist sat for Valiquette too. You beat me in the goalie stats, but that's OK, my team is built for the season and the playoffs, not week to week.
  • I know that LA was part of the 6 + 6 - but they were the step child beat ups - until Gretzky. (apologies to Dionne, Vachon and Co.)

Glad you are doing good on the fantasy league

    cheers

Agreed. Actually, let's put three clubs back in Canada. Phoenix back to Winnipeg, Atlanta to Hamilton, and either the Panthers or Preds to Halifax. Can you even imagine the chaos if the Maritimes got a team?

Quebec City will get a club before Halifax, but yeah if Winnipeg or Hamilton can support an NHL team I'm all for moving clubs out of the bible/sun (SEC FB only honks) belt. Like MLB should have done with Florida, award the state one franchise in Orlando where at least the higher tourism could bring in more than the 10K per night locals. Unfortunately, if Winnipeg or Hamilton are awarded teams at any point it's going to be just like Edmonton where not even Canadian born players and/or top free agents will want to play there...see Heatley, Dany and Elbows Pronger.

My name is Steve, and I am an ugly, hockey loving, american.
All: Hi Steve, you are among friends here.

Luckily I live within 1.5 hours drive of 4 AHL teams, plus of course the Bruins. Gets me and my son through the winter. Hope the Devils stay in Lowell after this year, can't beat a 45 minute drive and $11 tickets through the season ticket holder package. Having a Jeep makes the winter driving manageable no matter what the weather.

Heatley's a high maintenance headcase, and Pronger was screwing an Edmonton sports reporter. I see your point, but I think the NHL would be much, much better off with a stronger presence in Canada. For one thing, games in the Great White North make for MUCH better TV. I can't tell you how many games I've watched broadcast from the Saddledome, for instance, just because I love watching the Flames fans go nuts (and the niggling fact that the Flames employ my favorite player in the league). That kind of atmosphere can be infectious, even when you're watching from home, and having more TV broadcasts where the fans are rabid would ultimately go a long way towards getting the NHL off of Vs. and onto a real network.

Easy, slugger- I live 25 minutes outside of Detroit, so anything I say about 'ratholes' needs to be taken with a grain of salt. I'm sure Edmonton is a fine city (although I do hate their NHL team).

WOW! What's happening here? A hockey thread that has some quality posts and is staying at the top? The world is freezing over!

For those of you who don't know what hockey is, Peter Puck explains it best here: Peter Puck Explains the Game

"and having more TV broadcasts where the fans are rabid would ultimately go a long way towards getting the NHL off of Vs. and onto a real network."

agreed, Vs is brutal in both production value and on air "talent"...Keith Jones?..seriously. Unfortunately the NHL had no other options in America, but I think when the TV rights contract rolls back around the NHL will be back on ESPN/ESPN2. That said, it could be worse...they could make the deadliest of hockey sins and employ Pierre Maguire like NBC and TSN. Not even the horrible production that is a Vs broadcast could top the misstep of issuing Swedish Elite Red Wings apologist Maguire a paycheck.
  • I hope ESPN does NOT get hockey back.

They are college basketball / NBA hoops all the time. NHL was lucky to get 3 minutes air time.

I do feel bad for any US areas that do not get VS. but at least I can get updates and full games.

Being saddled with Florida teams is purgatory - and whne they play the Phoenix, Carolina and Dallas its inhumane.

I can still watch the Leafs stink and know its a hockey town.

Thank Buddha for the NHL Network !

Couldn't agree more. Franzen? Zetterberg? LIDSTROM?? Those guys are all half-talents. Thank God we've got towering intellects like Don Cherry to keep us all on the righteous path.

That's exactly what Ottawa fans said when he went over there in the Hossa trade. Who knows? Maybe he's finally figured it out. But at least to date his record has been spotty.

no one said anything about Don Cherry...he's not on American TV, nor did anyone say the Wings weren't aren't any good. Reading is fundamental. P. Maguire (who IS awful and constantly talks over or interrupts his co-workers with his boorish monotone voice) is a Wings apologist...he's the NHL equivalent of Dick Vitale with his jones for Duke basketball. Franzen has some offensive talent, but he's a clumsy skater, slow, fat, soft, and mediocre to below average defensively...he isn't close to Lidstrom or Z-berg's level. You're talking about 2 of the best all around players at their respective positions...although Datsyuk is better than both of them.

Thanks for that. I'm a very poor reader; it's never been my long suit. I'll work on that this winter.
  • Actually, we ge to see / hear Don Cherry every weekend on the NHL Network - as they bring Hockey Night In Canada.

He knows what he's talking about when it comes to fashion, eh ?
