Any chance this is real?

A very good friend and great person called me yesterday, very excited about eBay item 160368090468. He thinks it might be something Roger Maris actually used. After reading the auction description, I get the feeling that it's a store model bat and seller is at best confused and at worst.....well, you know.

What do you guys think?

Thanks,

Joe

  • Not sure about the bat, but here's the link to the auction.

Edited to add: you may want to ask the folks over at Net54.

Without a statement from Clyde King, I'd be dubious.

    Thanks for the link gotsparks.

The seller told my buddy that he was going to get him a letter from Mr. King. I tried to explain to my friend that game used stuff was hard to authenticate, but he's so excited, I didn't really want to tell him what I thought. Letters of authenticity don't really mean much to me. Anyone selling fake items will certainly provide you with a fake COA.

I really don't like the MARIS TYPE on the bat, other similar bats I have seen just have the players name and not the word type.

    Thanks guys,

    Joe

There is one post on Gameuseduniverse.com saying that a collector named "Tim" (Lin) is selling a bunch of Yankees Adirondack bats and claims the guy is a crook.
