2009 Topps Variations

I already have the Bob Gibson #415 variation in 2009 Topps. I thought that was the only Cardinals player with a variation. I was just on TEAMSETS4U.COM and it show that there is a #10 Rogers Hornsby and a #320 Johnny Mize. Can someone confirm this? I can't find them on Ebay. Thanks.

Never mind. I just confirmed Hornsby on Ebays completed items for $8 and $12.

OK, I'm completely confused about these "variations".

I just looked on ebay for any Padres in the set, and found Willie McCovey (#UH260). Nearly all the cards I found are listed as a "SP" and "variation", but they all appear identical.

Just what is the "variation" in the card?

I also went to the Topps website, and they don't even have the 2009 Topps Update set listed.

I guess this is a good reason why I don't collect new stuff (except for certain Padre and Charger cards). It's just all too confusing and impossible to keep up with, especially when you can't even get a stinking checklist of what's available! image

Not sure about the Update set, but with Series 1 and Series 2 the SP or "variation" cards are HOF "legends" that replace a modern player. For example, card #1 in the base set is AROD, but there is a SP version of card #1 as well and that is Babe Ruth. 20 cards in Series 1 and 20 cards in Series 2. The SPs were rather difficult to come by. Only one per Jumbo hobby box and the odds were less for regular hobby and retail.

  • 2009 UH has 325 as Robinson and another player and 150 Cobb and another player. Both Cobb and Robinson had the name in gold. Unsure of other players. That's what I found in my pulls.

    Thanks guys...that explains it image

I just looked again on ebay, and there's also a #UH260 of Ryan Howard.

It's all just a bit too gimicky for me. Topps is trying to make people believe they have a complete set (one of each card number), when they really don't image

Roger Maris is in a Cardinals uniform in the Update set. A little gimicky, but it's ok, I guess. I just need all the Cardinals. That's 3 more at $8 to $10 each.
