As you guys may or may not be aware, I've taken a break from collecting cards because I've become interested again in collecting classic NES/SNES games. I now have close to 100 NES games and close to 30 SNES ones. And I bought them mostly from Collector's Cards & Games which not only has a fantastic selection and good prices, but he will also put in new batteries in the games for you (that's how games saved your progress back then).

Anyhoo, the past decade or so I seem to go in cycles every few years as to what I collect/focus on. In the early part of this decade (first two years of college; 1999-2001), I found this great card dealer (Baseball Card Warehouse in Lexington, KY) that I bought all kinds of neat 80s sets from (that was my first card collecting goal was to get all the major 80s sets; other than 1982 Topps Traded and 1984 Fleer Update I'd say mission accomplished) and it was a LOT of fun opening those factory sets (my first one was 1987 and 1989 Topps), sorting them, and putting them in the binder pages.

But then my last two years of college (2001-2003) I got more into video games. I remember buying a Game Boy Advance console (I never had a Game Boy of any kind previously) as well as buying my first non-Nintendo console (PSOne; the mini-sized original Playstation) among other things. I stayed with collecting mainly video games until I got married and moved into our current apartment, when my parents were able to bring here all my baseball cards, so starting around 2006 or so, I got into cards again. And that continued until the past three months or so when I got bit by the classic gaming bug again. In fact, I came close to selling my prized 1993 Finest jumbo All-Stars set and more of my 1971 graded cards to help pay for it (I'm glad I didn't).

So basically what it boils down to is this, do any of the rest of you also go in cycles where you focus only on cards and other times you focus mainly on some other hobby? If so, which ones?

No other hobbies for me. This one takes up enough time and money as it is.

In answer to the second question, I get on game used kicks, buying whatever raw copy I need for my collection.

I understand what you mean; I've always wanted to get into coin collecting, but I've already got my hands full with these two hobbies.

I collect cars and some gold/silver bars, used to drag race but my eyes and reflexes aren't so good any more. And yes I go in cycles, right now I'm not buying much of anything.

I collect vintage Chevrolets as well.

I am going in cycles, excited about reshuffling my collection but also seeing I need to balance my interests out a bit.

I have quite a few collections. Coins, Stamps, War Letters, Meteorites, Sport Cards, among others. I tend to go on cycles and get pretty heavy into something for about 6 months....then move back to something else.

I use to take a Game Boy with me everywhere. (10+ years ago that is).

I for sure get into cycles between my card collecting and other stuff as well. I find myself letting alot of things go on ebay because I am occupied with something else and then I regret it later! Right now my main focus is on sportscards.

My main hobby outside work and family is Alpine Mountaineering. Card collecting is a side hobby I turn to once in a while, albeit an increasingly expensive one.

But, I have to say, the Alpine Mountaineering message boards aren't nearly as colorful.

I have a pretty large stamp collection that I keep telling myself I'm going to catch up on but since I can't even take the time to sort a box of cards, I don't see that happening any time soon.

Definitely cyclical

If I'm not bouncin back and forth through the 4 major sports, spurts of raw/wax/graded

I do get hooked into cars again, buying Benz's for my collection or parts for them

I always thought that when I had to clean the contacts of my NES/SNES games, that it wasn't any different than gun collectors having to clean their guns to make sure they stay in nice shape and work properly.

I just recently found a new hobby that I like alot.
About a month ago I started building cigar box guitars, so now for less then 20 bucks I can make a electric cigar box blues guitar thats a blast to build and play.

Fun and cheap, perfect hobby....lol

I'll go back and forth between this and cards i'm sure....

Model Railroading in HO scale. I also just recently got started in G Scale garden railroading. I also wanted a train to link my house to my pool (express non-stop service of course!)

Like a coupls others, I have a couple muscle/classic cars. During the spring and summer months I'm usually at car shows or cruise-ins about every weekend. Here is a picture of my toy.

Sports cards & some coins; also got my eye out for old Miller Lite glasses and tap handles. The wife and I do some Red Wing and Watt ware together. It definitely goes in cycles.

Over times I've collecting everything from rocks to comics, stamps, cards, autographs and coins. When I got out of college it shifted to sports memorabilia and coins. A few years ago I started selling a lot of stuff and started "consolidating". My collection is not as big as it once was but I can manage it while giving the family the time they deserve.

Card collecting has been the best value for my money when it comes to hobby's, limited traveling expenses, no serious depreciation of vintage PSA slabbed cards...

But....the most joy I have from a hobby is the great outdoors.
The outdoors hobby will be something I surely pass onto my children.

I like stamps the most. Tiny paintings that can be carried in a pocket;
especially now, with PSE slabs.

MANY years ago, I liked hunting, and collecting taxidermy specimens. I
have regretted it for decades and have tried to be especially nice to furry
critters since my reformation.

That is the Hoh river and the mountain you see is Mt Olympus, it's one of the world famous winter steelhead rivers in the "Olympic Peninsula" a few hours west of Seattle in Forks Washington.

I wouldn't give up the rush of fighting a trophy steelhead in 20 degree weather for any baseball card!

Besides baseball cards I do collect coins. Actually I was most active in coins in the 60's when you actually could find coins for your collection in pocket change or going through coins from the bank. Nowadays I love the U.S. proof sets that the mint comes out with so I buy a couple of sets every year.

Whenever we used to move my wife always talked about having to move my "collection of collections". I've had the collecting bug since I was a kid in the '60s. I started out with baseball cards, coins and stamps. (Definitely made the most of picking 90% silver coins out of circulation back then!)

Other collections include books (especially Mark Twain and Zane Grey early editions), knives, old postcards (started with gr-grandparents' collection), record albums (over 1,000 from the '60s-'70s) and CDs, and some other collections I'm too tired to remember now...

Sports memorabilia is definitely the bulk of my collection!

oddly enough, I've picked up several marble sets in my travels -

I have a set from the 1992-93 Champions - ARSENAL FC

1998 FRANCE World Cup Champion players

and a few that came in packs of cards from the French League

although I do not specifically search for them, I've picked up a bag or two at garage sales for pennies ...

Other hobbies include camping, reading WWII books, drinking Mountain Dew, was collecting MD bottles at one time.

Going in cycles, I am probably one of the worst ones for starting and stopping a set on these boards!!

Right now I have a Guild Bluesbird, Martin D28 and Gibson ES135 with bigsby.

I am looking to buy a Gretsch Country Jr and a Orange AD5 amp. I love me some Orange amps.

PM is on now, i think, im still trying to figure out how to get rid of the red x, lol,, vintage marbles are the majority of my collection, vintage being anything from 1950 on down to the 1800's, thats where the $$ is at,, ive never heard of the leaf marbles but if they came from an American marble factory ide love the see what they look like I could probably tell you who made them, ill have to ask around the marble boards for the sets though, a company out of Ottawa, IL, called Peltier actually had marbles we collector call "baseballs" because of their design looks alot like a baseball,, I try like heck not to mix new Marbles with old, 90's marbles are new and more than likely made in Mexico or Japan that are mass produced. Logo marbles are cool but to new for my collection, sounds like Im picky, yea when they made them by the boxcar loads you kind of run out of room to put them all, there are some art marbles that i can only wish to have they are new called contemporary(see pic below) these are ok for a vintage collector to collect because of the awesome work it took to make them plus they just look cool and they always leave you asking yourself, "How'de they do that", big money though, I will guarantee you this, my home will not lift off if a tornado was to hit me ,glass is heavy, lol, you think cards are hard to collect ,card collectors go after subsets, different grades, ect.., marble collectors can have 50 of the same type of marble but with a different designs or colors, My collection comes strickly from whats found in the wild meaning auctions, garage sales, or from people that come up to me and ask what they have is worth anything, i used to go to between 3 and 5 auctions a week for a long time ive run across alot of odd items, its all fun,, bj

As a kid I collected everything. Anything I bought became a "collection." As I have gotten older I have gotten rid of most of these collections. My sports cards have been thinned down considerably over the years but I still have them. Recently I have thought about selling most of them too but want to wait to see if my kids want them. I just do not like having "stuff" sitting around. Maybe it's because I am too busy but I just don't enjoy collections anymore. Plus dealing with people's estates (after they die) here at work I see what people hoard and it makes me want to get rid of everything I own. It's scary what some old people die with.

My secondary hobby is sports cards. My primary hobby is collecting Van Halen related memorabilia and music. Anything and everything VH is in my collection. I collect everything from guitar picks (500+), recordings of live shows (700+), ticket stubs, pictures, posters, tour shirts, crew used items, and anything else I can get my hands on. In 7th grade, they were huge and I was at the impressionable age where they stuck with me. I started working concert security after high school and was able to meet many bands and musicians and obtain memorabilia, which I then would trade for VH items. I don't meet many other VH collectors, but there is a core group of us out there that trade and swap shows etc;

It definitely keeps me busy with VH and sports cards!
