Question on 1979 Topps Steelers

I had recently dug up my old 1979 Topps Steelers Set (which was the first year I really start collecting Football) - nothing about PSA 5 in that batch, but high in personal value. Out of curiosity, just wondering if anyone knows why there was no Lynn Swann from 1977 Topps going onward. As a 7 year old, I was a bit perturbed Lynn Swann wasn't on a card back then.

I can only guess he (like Earl Campbell - who only had Topps cards in '79) chose to not be a part of the NFLPA contract with Topps. They must have had some ability to opt out. Similar to Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley regularly NOT showing up in NBA video games in the early 90's.

There were actually a lot of players not featured on cards in that era. John Stallworth also did not have a card for several years. In fact, he was drafted in '74 but didn't appear on a card until '78.

Yes it was a contract issue with Swann.
