thenavarro's 3000th post with a contest inside, and the winner is..................................
This is my 3000th post, and I wanted to say thanks to everyone for making this a fun place to hang out, and a nice reprieve from the stresses of life.
I’m going to have a different sort of contest. There will be no objective measurable winner. I will pick the winner subjectively, totally at my discretion. The winner will receive this Earl Campbell authentically autographed 8 x 10 that I had signed in person when I met him. I also need to point out that Mr. Campbell’s team lost this game to the Fighting Irish!!!

If you wish to enter my contest, you must list at least one thing you admire about 10 different board members, whether it be their collections, or anything about that person. I will announce the winner when I return from a book signing I am going to late on Thursday night, October 22, 2009. That gives you plenty of time to find something nice to say about your fellow board members.
I’ll start:
Five7Teen- I appreciate the friendship and I hope that one day my signed rookie card collection will be as nice as yours.
CarolJ – I like the mystery behind the woman who imposes her will upon the place. (Although I have to admit, I'd love to see a pic, hint, hint
)
CD’s Nuts – I like your wit, you seem like you would be a fun person to hang out with and catch a game.
StantheMan- I appreciate your demonstrated knowledge of certain autographs, and your willingness to share that knowledge with me
VitoCo – You’ve got an amazing golf collection, and I enjoy our joint project and PM’s
MPhilking- I appreciate the time you take to send things to my 5 year old daughter. You are her favorite board member
MinorLeagueSource – I appreciate your help on signatures, and for providing some nice pieces for my signed rookie card collection.
Schr1st- I appreciate the heads up you give me from time to time on items I might need.
AirJoeDan- Thanks for the great deals on autographed cards
GregM- Thanks for the great deals on autographed cards, you have a ton of knowledge on signed football rookies.
Lawnmowerman and Fandango – I like y’alls devotion to individual players. Emmitt Smith and Albert Pujols. That passion is fun to watch
Lawnmowerman’s wife - You’ve got gorgeous eyes
MBMiller- You’ve designed the nicest storage case bar none for graded cards. Additionally, I appreciate your willingness to help me with my collection and price breaks.
PoppaJ- You’ve got an amazing collection and you always have a kind word for people. I know that one day I’m going to end up buying a 52 Mantle from ya
Storm- You are always willing to take time to post a detailed response to help people with their concerns. That’s laudable and a lot of people won’t do that.
Winpitcher- I admire your tenacity when you believe in something.
Boopotts- Your charity towards my Ellis County Children’s Advocacy Center, Inc. is felt by many here. Thank you!
Dboneesq- I enjoy your TTM thread and appreciate the friendship through PM
Beck6, Baseballfan, IrishMike, JeremyDie1- I appreciate y’all being fans of the greatest University in the world.
LSUTigers1973- I like the way you watch out for the board and ferret out potential scams.
TheHun - You do great work on the custom cards you do for me.
Nam812- I enjoy your TTM thread, and your wit is fun as well.
Chromerookies - I enjoy your signed rookie thread, and really like that Campy!
RockDJRW- Thank you for helping me get so many signed cards. I appreciate your friendship
Frankhardy- Your Cardinals collection is amazing. Keep up the great work!
Neenish- Your generosity to people on this site is fun to see
IJustlovecards- Although you and I have yet to consumate a deal, I admire your generosity to others, and your amazing collection of unopened product. Plus, if I happen to sell my 911, your T206 Magie error will be mine
I’ll be adding to my list over the week, that’s just a few off the top of my head.
Again, thanks to everyone for making this an interesting and successful message board.
Take care,
Mike

Hook'em
<< <i>I declare myself the winner!!!
Hook'em
For some reason, although I'm a lifelong Texan, I don't think anybody with the board id of "Hook'em" is going to win my contest
Actually, UT was going to be my choice if something happened with Notre Dame. I ended up turning down a full ride (academics, not athletics, I wasn't talented enough to play ball) to UT plus spending money, in order to go to ND and pay back student loans for the next 10 years. In hindsight, after my experiences at Notre Dame, I'd make the same decision 100 times out of 100. GO IRISH!!!
Let's get this started:
Ronburgundy -- Good Texan. Raw card guy on graded board!
Bosox1976 -- always ready to answer my pointless questions.
1989FleerBillRipkencollector -- Nice website and educator of all things Ripken. Fakes, etc…
nearmint -- ABC guy. Following him on Twitter and Facebook now. Sweet page.
IJustLoveCards -- The lady we all LOVE. Has that quality we all wish our wives had!!
carolj -- Trying to help save us $$$ in this economy. Thanks for posting the deals. You are on your way to converting a BGS guy
VikingDude -- On cloud 9 after today’s game vs. the Ravens.
lawnmowerman -- Santa de Claus???
yankeeno7 -- Can’t think of nice things right now since he is trying to steal my Jessica Simpson. JK, a guy with great tastes in the ladies…
Elemenopeo -- aka, the 52 Mantle trader. Fun story to follow, better than a paperclip for a house.
Mickey71 -- On a mission to eliminate qualifiers on grades. I support the cause!
Stone193 -- owner of probably the largest thread I have ever seen on these boards!
gumbyfan -- Group sub guru. Nice guy for letting rookies participate!
jswieton -- Bear fan that is willing to help others with his 100+ card PSA subs.
Ahmanfan -- Football HOF madman. Great scans of awesome autos
TheHun -- Don’t mess with this guys SOCCER. He will deliver the beatdown.
BunchOBull -- Frank Thomas NNO expert. I always wanted to know what the story was on this card. I started collecting around this time and never really knew what caused all the excitement. He also started and posted the print info on the A&G thread. Lots of good reading in that one.
MinorLeagueSource -- Trying to stop/reduce fake autos. Bravo to you sir.
Smittys -- Fun contest guy.
Cardpricer -- VCP price helper. Also has a nice website.
storm888 -- Thanks for fixing my links and helping me show Kobe intead of Fat Women in Spanax. Might have saved me from an internet murder at the hands of our mafia man VitoCo1972.
Halosfan -- A fan of the Angels and apparently “Spanax” as well…
Griffins -- AWESOME collection of boxes, wrappers. Just amazing displays.
jmoran19 -- My 2nd favorite box/wrapper display.
sutigers1973 -- Thank you for taking Miles out of the Big 12. Hook’em
PoppaJ -- Takes time for answering my dumb questions. Comments on my posts when they are left hanging with a big fat 0 in the reply field. My loneliness thanks you!
I also owe a thank you to two posters who have told me how to fix my avatar. Of course I have forgotten the one day I am able to add my own. What an odd policy.
congrats on # 3000
edited to add a thumbs up to Mike for 3000 posts. way to go!
My Podcast - Now FEATURED on iTunes
<< <i>I like everybody
congrats on # 3000 >>
zepp33 -- A friend to all!
<< <i>I'm sick and don't feel like doing this except to say that I'd jump off a cliff for Felicia and go almost that far for everyone else. This board rules. >>
Vito tried to whack me internet Soprano style. See above...
You are in the early lead!
Mike
Felicia - Does this one really need an explanation? Her generosity is second to none, not to mention she has a tremendous collection.
nam812 - Nick has helped me out with numerous vintage cards, not to mention all the trading we have done with Heritage and A&G, just a great all around guy.
TNP777 - Geordie has also been a great trading partner with Heritage, and he let me buy his 2009 Heritage case this past year.
OAKESY25 - Another example of a very generous board member, recently sent me a couple of 70's wrappers and absolutely refused to let me pay even shipping.
SS - While he doesn't post often he just sold me a Bob Gibson rookie at a very reasonable price and packed it very well.
Dboneesq - He and Rube got me going on my ttm projects.
Griffins - Another wealth of knowledge with a very impressive collection.
Storm - The go to guy for anything ebay related, as well as many other topics.
zep33 - You really have to admire his Red Sox collection, and his addiction to ripping!
prscott933 - Another great trader, even if he does bid against me on certain Cardinals cards.
VitoCO1972 - Another good guy that has helped me out with numerous ttm quests.
thenavarro - It amazes me just how many autos you have amassed in such a short period of time.
Gone but not forgotten
joestalin - while he certainly isn't everyones cup of tea, he was an encyclopedia of everything Heritage.
Rube - enough said
I'm sure I've forgotten a few people and I apologize for that, but the good people on this board are so numerous it would be almost impossible to list them all.
My Registry Sets
Lawnmowerman - guys like Matt are what will keep this hobby going strong for years
Nam812 - smart, very smart
thenavarro - dedication to kids who need help
Winpitcher - cynical but probably the first guy I'd go to for advice on buying/selling a card
Stone - just sounds like a great guy, I think I'd want him to live next door
LSUTigers - helpful, watchful, funny. Too bad he's not a UCLA fan. Plus if you want to sell 80s junk (and who doesn't) he's probably the guy who would buy it.
jswieton - I like anyone who puts rips together
Can't remember his name, the guy who had Chevy Chase as his avatar, arranged the 75 mini rip - Zep!!!
and finally
Storm - it would take me years to write what he can do in minutes. Light years, since I'd have to study so much to figure out the answer before I even started writing
Lots of others, these just came to mind
"Molon Labe"
1) -- Lawnmowerman-- Matt has been a huge help in adding a portion of stabilty to these boards . he does the "Santa" thing , but in the past has made make these boards a place for friends . He was also one of the first to "OUT" Gary ( uncle Fester ).
-1)-- 80's junkdealer--- Gary --- Did a great deal of harm to many and acted like Pete Rose , no remorse or anything. I'm sure he still is on the boards , in one form or another , but he represents the ugly side of the hobby.
2) -- Davalillo-- Jim Crandel-- The collecting mans collector . A man with a dream and walking toward it.
3)- Arthur -- Banned -------- Incredible inciteful in most of his posts. Always made sense , when he posted. Last post was a poofed thread about " A bear ate a man ". Arthur if you are reading this , come back .
4)-- nam812-- Nick --- The great detective . He can smell out BS a few moments after the fumes appear. I have always marveled at his incite . Arch- enemy to the Pujols Dark Lords.
5) -- Gumbyfan -- Craig-- Another great detective that knows his stuff. Outted many turds over the short time I've been here. Arch enemy of banned "Hockey(girl)guy .
6) - Ijustlovecards-- felicia-- What can be said that is not already known ? She enjoys cards more that most men I know . I loved how she shares her cards and interests.
7) -- The czar -- Frank -- A man on a mission . Knows what he wants , knows his means , finds whats he collects. As a collector , the board member with the collecting drive most simular to myself. I've got some great deals from him along the way.
8) -- cdnuts -- Lee -- Lives less than 5 miles from me. A smartazze with some hobby smarts . Man does he have some great cards , if you collect what he has.
9) -- EagleEyeKid --Bryan -- HAD the funniest ebay handle I've ever seen . The Govenor of the Elmwood Park Circle Park ( VideoRays-comic Emporium ) -- " Just a guy living the American dream " , with his Mark McGwire special , put an end to the great Ebay handle the world has ever known . Good collector.
10 ) -- RUBE-- Rube shared some fantastic memories , that real men admired , and wantabes detested . I still email him , long after he was banned . Probably still in his Rubecave out there in West Virginia.
11) Thenavarro -- Mike-- I always wonder where and how you got all those autographed cards . You probably have more certified autos than I have cards. You also love your children and as the father of 5 sons myself , stands taller than your collection.
I love looking at your most recent "find".
Lan-lines beware.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are many more , but this is hopefully a good list to inspire the winner .
Thanks for the idea Mike---- Sonny
you set a good example of a poster / collector / and CU member.
you do the things that it takes to reach 3000 - 1) be yourself and 2) be respectful.
lots of good people on here - too many to list - you know who you are anyway.
I'd enter your contest but you know my football is played with the feet - but Earl was a bull !
cheers
That would be an awesome companion to this:
I'd like to recognize the following people:
Winpitcher -- for his love of Kellogs and passing this along
Additionally he is always entertaining.
PAndrews -- We both enjoy sports that involve violence and he has a heck of a sense of humor.
Stone -- I think everyone here respects him and he was welcoming to me when I joined the boards. Beyond that his passion for what he collects is admirable. I might be saying that as I'm a whiskey guy and he has enough decanters to keep me happy for a while.
Speaking of whiskey, who can't mention metalmike. Get six sheets to the wind and the guy makes sense.
Perkdog -- Has great sig-lines that most everyone can appreciate and is solid on the Sports forum.
Lawnmowerman -- Aside for his man crush an anyone wearing a Cowboys uniform, you have got to give it up to a man that has dedicated his life to "grass" and "mowing lawns". He also once owned a Nova!
CDNuts -- Now there is a character I would love to spend a weekend with in Vegas. I have no idea where the day/nights would take us but I am betting there would not be a dull moment.
Boopoots -- Always is around with an interesting post, sometimes ridiculous sometimes very informative.
Stown -- Very passionate about the causes he supports and always around to answer the mundane eBay questions people can't figure out themselves.
FabFrank -- has helped me out on a couple of sets and has an interesting collection.
GregM13/Jasp24/Davemri and crew for their passion for the football hof registry sets. They have some great threads on the registry board.
Lsutigers -- that guy has the mintacular cards in PSA slabs that some of us need.
Barfvader -- Quirky passion for miscut cards. One of these days I will be the next in line to send him a package.
Ymarea and all of the folks who continute to post on MR Ron Burgundy's Raw card thread. It is always interesting to see what will show up next.
All of the player collectors we have on here from Brett Butler to McGwire to Will Clark to the Ripken crew. All have great collections and are more than happy to have a place to share their passion.
To the Ripken guys -- I didn't have a chance to scan the 82's I have signed but this one is for you:
On the registry board there are all of the contributors to the various Olympics that they track. Those conversations/competitions are entertaining.
A special shout out to Mexisar for his amazing collection. He often kills me on eBay but I have great admiration for the sets he has been able to assemble.
I miss some folks who have moved on that were into boxing cards and wish some of the non-sport guys would post here more often. That being said, I still feel that this site has a very diverse group that is supportive of one another's collections and is a good place to pass some time.
Nick

thenavarro - Since Mike is the one that started this thread and is grading these posts himself, I will say that I admire everything about him. I would vote for him for President of the World. He is the only man in the world that could probably out hit Pujols. He may can come close to out shooting me in a 3 point or free throw contest (notice I said, "may")
Oneal - He hardly ever posts on these boards due to him being a missionary to Canada, but I admire him greatly. He has been my best friend for over 20 years (since my sophomore year). He was the best man in my wedding, and we still talk on a weekly basis (I just called him to get his username). He can't out shoot me either, though he has tried many times! He did average 37 point per game his senior year in high school. He was a big man (for Christian school players) 6'5". He couldn't jump, but he could shoot.
rube26105 - Miss ya, buddy! He is a freakin' war hero! What else do I need to say!
Ripublicaninmass - He is a republican in the liberal state of Massachusetts. If you can't admire that, then there is something wrong!
storm888 - If you've got a technical question about Ebay or Paypal, this is your man. Not only does he have a great deal of knowledge, he is always willing to share it.
1989FleerBillRipkencollector - Donovan has some big time passion for the infamous Billy Ripken card. Though I don't like the use of the "f-bomb", his never ending quest to get ever one of these cards (not just every example, I mean every single one) is something to be amazed at.
CDsNuts - His endless sarcasm is astounding.
onefasttalon - Anybody that loves a player as much as fandango loves Pujols (well, maybe not that much), and that player be as mediocre as Chris Sabo, has to be admired. I've seen pictures of his Chris Sabo collection, and it is amazing!
bishop - Al is as generous as anybody could be. He is very helpful and knowledgeable. His collection is amazing. I have an old SCD that I got from him and he had marked in it all of the sets that he owned, and I was dumbfounded!
bobsbbcards - I've seen a few of his rare test issues (including the 1961 Dice Game Mantle). If you know anything at all about test issues and you've seen what Bob has, then you know how truly amazing his collection is.
cohocorp - Pat helped me out a couple of years back, and wanted nothing in return. He sent me some cards, and they weren't chopped liver, either. I haven't forgotten that.
Elemenopeo - Even though it didn't pan out, his quest for the Mantle (trading up from a 1986 Topps Alan Knicely) was fun to watch.
Estil - He's a fellow UK fan! John Wall is going to be fun to watch!
Griffins - His unopened collection is outstanding.
Hoofhearted - Who wouldn't like a name like that!
lawnmowerman - He came up with the Albert Pujols Wonder Woman card! I paid him back with the Emmitt Smith Princess Barbie card.
ripkenintheminors - I will never forget the Bob Bonner interview. Bob Bonner is the man on the left of the Cal Ripken rookie card. Bob is a missionary and it was a wonderful interview.
Ijustlovecards - Felicia has an incredible collection and her generosity is unmatched, though I have never spoken to her or received anything from her (hint, hint!)
Stone193 - I haven't seen him post in a while, but he has always been a valuable member here.
StanTheManMusial - I admire his knowledge of Pujols autographs and admire his enthusiasm for the Cardinals.
And last, but not least -
fandango - Most everybody hates Scott for his Pujols love, but he keeps coming back for more. I do admire that he had the guts to post the jock strap for a little self deprecation.
Shane

STORM-Your information regarding all things EBAY/PAYPAL is invaluable. Thanks very much for taking the time to help all your fellow forum users out when we find ourselves in a bind.

NAM812-Nick, Thanks for being that second set of eyes on alot of my cards, and allowing me to use you as a sounding board.

MPHILKING-Mike, Love talking all things cards with you.
STANTHEMAN-Tim, Love reading what you have to say. Wish you came around more often, but understand.
SAMSPOP-Mike, Your McGwire collection is the craziest thing I have ever seen. Wish the rest of the boards could actaully see what 1600+ Mark McGwire cards look like and how much space they take up.
BPORTER26-LOVE YOU MAN! Growing up next to each other was quite a blessing, I have such great memories collecting and going from show to show with you over the years! Thanks for being such a good friend for the last 20+ years.

In my best crying Esai Morales voice from La Bamba I am about to find my wife and tell her -- "You know that contest I entered, I WON".
Sweet deal Navarro. I look forward to framing it and putting up in my Longhorn display case. I will be happy to send a photo for you to show your Aggie wife.
