Opening 77T vending from BBCE

A mixed bag. Very sharp corners and edges throughout. Centering typical for the year. Here's the worst of it:

Jeff, if you want these they're yours. I doubt that there's anyone else on the planet who'd be interested. So PM me if you want em

And here's the very rare Darrel Thomas "Team name in half yellow letters" variation. image

Got some real good stuff as well, including a Luebber that looks like a 9. I will be posting when I return later and have a chance to sort through it.

It figures that the miscuts are stars or HOF'ers. Looking forward to seeing some scans. How are the corners?

love them 77's.....i got 2 of those v-boxes from Steve a few months ago and opened them in perfect sequence.....the first box was meh, but the 2nd one yielded some gradable stuff incl. a nice Carlton which got a 10 plus i got within about 3 or 4 cards of finishing a set......good times, hope you got some nice ones Matt. image

Had a chance to sort through the rest and here are some of the good cards I hit. I actually got 2 Murph and 2 Dawson RC. The only one that has a real shot is this Murph on the left:

The Ryan RB and Rices are probably 9. The others are a little OC:

The leader cards are pretty nice, too bad the Fidrych was MC:

More stars, mostly OC. I also want to point out that there are some real condition rarities in '77. One is the Guidry, which is a very tough card. IMO it will never see a 10. Tougher than they Yount, even. What makes a 10 impossible is that in his signature, there is always a black smudge like in this one. The smudge always looks a little different but is always there.

I am real happy about this. Anyone who's done much with 77 knows. I've never had one in 9 quality and this may be as close as I ever get. One roller mark on the left, but this card is usually slaughtered with print. Unfortunately if it does get a 9, there's not really a market for it right now, but it would be nice nonetheless:

On a side note, if any of you decide to jump into 77's, the Cardenal will be the hardest card for you to find in 9. By far toughest card in set. Major print issues and/or real tough centering. In all seriousness I've handled over 100 and have yet to find one even submittable. This one's no different.

Average box for 77. I'll be subbing about 20 cards, Probably won't make my money back but might come close if I get lucky with some commons. And I was able to put away lots of high grade raw for my sets. $395 at BBCE.

Nice looking cards! Even the mis-cuts are cool

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

Any luck on Pole, Collins, Royster, Ruthven, JC Martin, or Kucek?
  • hammeredhammered Posts: 2,671 ✭✭✭
I got a Royster that was real nice but was at the end of the box, so the edges were bentimage

I think just saving these as you show is pretty cool for the miss-cuts

too bad you did not get the other 2...would make a neat 9 pocket page display
I collect Seattle Pilots autographs, 1969 Topps autographs, Signed Mickey Mantle Home Run History cards and have a JC Martin collection (he was my college Baseball coach)
