Classy eBay member: jbjr777

I messaged eBay member jbjr777 last week asking about this auction Link I asked if there was any way I could buy one card from his list as that is the last one to finish my Topps set. I got this back as a reply:

hi patrick--which one do you need?--i'll drop it in the mail to you--john

- jbjr777

...and when I offered to pay him...

thanks patrick--i'll send that card out to you on monday....don't worry about paying for the card--just do something nice for someone else this week and we'll be even!--have a good weekend--john

...We don't see very many people like this, and when things go bad we usually post our negative dealings. So, I was expecting a low grade card (one I would keep and not upgrade, because of his generosity) but was even more surprised when it came in the mail today looking sharp.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do as of yet, but I think I'll send him a few extra star cards I have from this year, like the Lafleur and Gordie Howe. I do, however, want to share this story with you guys!

Thanks Doug. I actually still need the Gretzky to finish the set. I've been searching eBay for a good deal, but in the last 20 seconds of each auction the price goes crazy out of my spending range (120.00). I'm looking for an "Authentic" to low grade graded one, with nice eye appeal (maybe a couple hairline creases that are not immediately noticeable top the eye) but this way I know it is real.... Then, I will crack it out and put it on my binder image

  • I think it's a reprint.

That's what I first thought, but the back has no reprint stamp on it, and nobody punched a hole through it, so it must be real.

Not surprising at all. All guys with 777 in their username are swell people. image

seriously though, good for him. That's what the collecting community should be like all the time. Thankfully, this community is filled with people just like the one you encountered. Congrats on finishing your set.

I'm a big believer in balance in the universe, so I'm gonna have to do something bad to somebody just to even things out.
  • Very classy of him. When you do something nice for someone else, it brings good karma. Probably why he said do something nice for something nice for someone else and we'll be even. Shows there good people in the world.

Btw, the card looks really sharp.
