Obviously a lot of work went into that.
Too bad the seller had to part with it.
    Nice pickup

The sad thing is he spent 30 plus years on these, however his wife passed two years ago and he lost all interest in them.
So he decided to sell them, none of his kids wanted them. I really don't like getting collections this way, but he wanted to get
rid of them, just to many memories of his wife. I can see him telling his wife " honey I just got Dick Buckus to sign a card for me"
he's got some nice letters too. Really a shame.
  • Nice pick up. The Terry Bradshaw is ghost signed though.

what do you mean ghost signed?
  • That was great to look at just from the scans - it must be wonderful flipping through the pages in person.

... and I'm not even a football collector.

    cheers

Ghost signed means someone answers the mail for Bradshaw like an assistant and signs for him as well.

Sometimes they used a rubber stamp.

Not done as much today as it was in the 70s thru 90s.
Currently completing the following registry sets: Cardinal HOF's, 1961 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, 1972 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, 1980 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, Bill Mazeroski Master & Basic Sets, Roberto Clemente Master & Basic Sets, Willie Stargell Master & Basic Sets and Terry Bradshaw Basic Set
  • Ghost signed is when someone else signs for them as morgoth said. Bradshaw has had someone signing for him for years. At least whoever signs his stuff tries to make it look like his sig. Unlike Isaac Bruce.

Wow, Wow, Wow, Wow... that's crazy!

What are your plans? Will you slab them PSA/DNA before you sell them?
  • The red flag ones would be Bird, Elway, Bradshaw, Montana and Staubach in my opinion. Those guys are known to use ghost signers/auto pen.

That Bird looks like it may actually be real. I got a Bird TTM back in 90/91 which did not pass PSA/DNA recently, but his looks much closer to the real deal.

Montana is hit and miss though. I had a TTM Montana pass PSA/DNA but the one in this collection looks slightly off, especially the lack of smoothness in the "J".
