Ebay scammer! What do I do?

I recently sold a 1958 PSA 9 Temple for peanuts. It went for $41. Now I get an item not as described from him saying it was only a PSA 8. I have never owned a PSA 8 Temple. You can look at ebay to see his bidder ID. What do I do? I would love to get the card back, since it went so low. Thanks

So, are you saying he sent you a PSA 8 in return? I don't think there is anything you can do about it unfortunately. Keep a close eye on the serial number of your 9. Send a message to the buyer and see if he sent the 8 to you as an accident...it looks like he has a lot of feedback...pos or neg...not sure.

    edit:

oh, the guy got the card from you and is saying it is an 8? again, not sure what to do...storm will be here soon and will offer advice...he knows the ebay/paypal process pretty well.

we will need his user id so we can block him.

    eewwwwwww gross

Tell him to send back the card you sold him and you
    will refund his money.

  • Here is my fear. It appears that he recently bought a PSA 8 from 2myboyz on 9/16/09 according to VCP. I wrote down the Ebay item #. Can I use this against him if he sends me the PSA 8 back that was in this auction ? I appreciate all your input Storm and MullinsS5.

"...Can I use this against him if he sends me the PSA 8 back that was in this auction ?..."

    ////////////////////////////////

Tell him in the Dispute Console that you will refund when he sends back

(Card Description) PSA Cert Number xxxxxxxxxx.

If he sends back the 8, appeal to PayPal and file a Mail Fraud complaint
    against him with USPS.

If PayPal refuses to reverse the refund, file a complaint against EBAY
and PayPal with the San Jose BBB.

    ................................................

IF you are certain that he bought an 8 from somebody else, you should
consider letting him know you are aware of that NOW.

    ...............

Based on his FB left and received, he is a real piece of something.

  • I will contact my2boyz to see if he can give me the PSA 8 serial #. Also, would it help if I opened the card in front of someone at the post office? Thanks alot.

    Wouldn't hurt.

    ........

It might be best to "remind" him that you sold him the
9 he bought, NOT the 8.

If he knows you are onto his carp, he might knock it off.

  • A new, or another ebay scam to be concerned about...Great!!!

Having dealt with scammers-disputes on a large hobby site, I have called many people and believe the voice/human element has had an impact in resolutions.
I'd do the above, and call him at his store and ask how long he's bee planning this?

I think you should save all the scans for every auction involved. Maybe I don't know enough to know better, but I would save them.

PS - Don't forget to open your return package in front of a USPS Postal Employee....that advice saved me HUNDREDS when some Ebay scammer decided to keep two of my high grade 1961 Fleer basketball cards and return two high grade PSA broken slabs.......and I would pre-call PayPal about your concern........this is the type of crap we sellers have to deal with everyday.....I feel bad because your high grade common sold so cheaply and now this ragamuffin wants to give you a headache to steal it even more than he already did!

I have added him to my BBL as well.

Two or three years ago starting that card at 99 cents would have been OK, now not so much.

Not sure how he thinks he can get away with this since you can prove he picked up the 8 in a different auction
  • Not trying to jump to conclusions, but is it possible that he just got the 8 in the mail and assumed you sent it, not realizing that he had bought the 8 3 weeks ago? The guy has won 100 items in the past month. Could be (and I really hope it is) a case of him jumping the gun causing a ripple effect. He also only won your card on the 4th. Assuming he paid right away and you sent it the 5th, does your delivery confirmation show as recieved?

FWIW, the buyer bought a card from me last week and left positive feedback.

Seems like a likely scenario. However, the guy is still a douche

It could be so and it gives the buyer an easy opportunity
to back away from his current position.

  • It appears Katscards is correct. I got an email from the buyer stating that "I could have sworn I got the card from you today (wednesday) in PSA. I do have one. However in checking the tracking number it should be here thursday. " I guess I should have checked the tracking number myself to see if it was delivered also. I just assumed he had received the card. I got 2 different emails from him in less than 12 hours. He received the card this morning and left positive feedback. It could have been an honest mistake. I am still going to block him from future bids. Thanks for all the input from everyone, Tony PS, you board members are the best. I am especially grateful to Storm and Cardbender
