What am I missing? Isn't $6800 more than twice what it's worth?

Upon further review, I believe $6800 is about three times what it is worth. You will probably be better off selling the 8s and 9s individually, as well as the stars in 7. Group the rest in team sets. Good luck with it. I hope you do well, but my opinion is that you need to lower your expectations.
  • i just went off the psa prices guide and what i have in it. and you out of your mind if you think it only worth 2,200. there are 351 cards, all the stars minus the mantle and a lot of 8's and 9's.

  • is it complete, or are you just selling the graded cards?

you may get several grand on Ebay for it if you market it correctly. I doubt you will get more than 6K. its a beautiful set, one of my faves from the 60's good luck with your sale.
  • Actually, the value of the partial set is closer to the $2200 than the $6800 you started out with. The rough value breakdown is as follows:

    Fourteen 9's: Recent EBAY common 9's have been selling for $20 - 14 times $20 equals $280

    Three 8.5's: Recent EBAY common 8.5's have been selling for $15 - 3 times $15 equals $45

    Sixty-nine 8's: Recent EBAY common 8's have been selling for $10 - 69 times $10 equals $690

    Sixteen 7.5's: Recent EBAY common 7.5's have been selling for $5 - 16 times $5 equals $80

Two hundred forty 7's: Recent EBAY common 7's have been selling for $3-$4 - 240 times $3.50 equals $840

The stars are 7's and the top stars would bring about $700 based on recently ended EBAY auctions (Banks, Berra, Killebrew, Yaz, Koufax, Mays, Rose, Aaron, Clemente)

Adding the above figures plus adding another couple hundred for misc. minor stars, rookies, league leaders, etc. equals a realistic price somewhere in the $3,000 range.

The amount that you have into the set is irrelevant as the market is whatever you could get for it at this moment in time.
  • irrelevant to you but not to me. i am open to offers but 3000 will not cut it. please dont comment unless your interested.

no scans, no description of set, few details..........

Why even bother posting here if this is all the energy you have in selling it? If anything, you're turning people away.

Since I have more free time than good sense, I added the actual VCP average selling price for all the PSA 7s (not the 7.5s). It came in at around $2400. I do not know what a fair price is for the 7s. As someone noted, they are worth what someone is willing to pay. A big problem, as I see it, is that someone who is willing to pay for the 9s will not be interested in the 7s. No dealer will want the lot, except at a cut rate price, because the 7 commons are worth next to nothing. Too much of the "value" is tied up in PSA 7 commons. On Ebay the fees will kill you on cards that sell in the $1-4 range.

I have a completely graded 65 set (7.92). All the big cards (Mantle, Aaron, Koufax, Clemente, Maris, Perez and Carlton Rookies) except Rose and Hunter are PSA 8. Mays and Berra are 8.5s. Rose and Hunter are 7s. I have a few 9s, and a few more 7s than nines. The VCP value is around $17,000. You are looking for a third of that for 60% of a set with none of the big cards above PSA 7. I hope you get your price, but I think you need to be realistic. What you paid for your cards is irrelevant. I have plenty of cards that are worth less than I paid. It happens.

OK. I have now checked the nines. I counted 15. The sum of the actual VCP averages is about $478. Unlike the 7s, these cards would be relatively easy to sell.
  • bugonarug you can look at the entire set in the link. please dont bother replying because it apparent that you arent interesting in anything more than bieng a pain. if any would like to see some scans of certain cards i can scan them as soon as possible

Telling long time board members to not reply when they are trying to help you set a realistic price won't help you sell it here.

I suggest setting a high buy it now on ebay and wait for someone to bite.
Currently completing the following registry sets: Cardinal HOF's, 1961 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, 1972 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, 1980 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, Bill Mazeroski Master & Basic Sets, Roberto Clemente Master & Basic Sets, Willie Stargell Master & Basic Sets and Terry Bradshaw Basic Set
  • good advice Morgoth. I sold a complete, raw Ex. condition set for just over 1200 last year. Im sure the OP might get some nibbles, maybe have a best offer/ high buy it now. with lots of scans.

Pretty smart to come to a forum where one's most likely to make a fair sale, and then proceed to annoy the membership. image Good luck with your sale.

I didnt look up any SMR numbers but I did check out the link to the set. If the actual SMR is in the range of 2400 to 3000, I would be more than happy to buy that set for $3000.
