The Worst Execution for a Baseball Card has to go to...

Topps Ticket to Stardom. It's kind of a cool idea: inserting real game tickets into cards. I am watching an Adam Wainwright card on eBay right now and I decided to see what miraculous feat he had on September 26, 2008 (the date of the ticket in the card). I figured it had to be striking out 10+, a complete game shutout, or even just a win. But, alas, according to baseball-almanac.com, HE DIDN'T EVEN PLAY IN THE GAME! What a load of BS! Is this what we have to look forward to from Topps when they're the only game in town next year?

<< <i>The May 3,2008 that is also being auctioned is wrong too!!!! Is it safe to assume he was at LEAST in uniform for these games?????
I'm actually a little bitter about this. I know it's a stupid, gimicky, modern product but as a collector that buys some modern cards of my favorite players I am pretty disappointed in Topps. I like the idea of tickets being inserted into cards but make it meaningful like a win, a large amount of strikeouts, a HR, etc., not a random ticket that has no bearing on the career of the player pictured.

I don't think any of the manufacturers care too much or want to put much effort into it. I am sure someone in marketing had the idea of game used tickets but when the realized how hard it would be to find specific games per player they just decided to find tickets per team.
<< <i>I completely agree...and I didn't mean to upset you. Sorry if I did. It's really a shame they are not even caring about the game! >>
You didn't upset me. The lack-luster effort that card companies are putting forth lately has upset me.
And I know what you mean, Jason. UD has been slipping for awhile now. My favorite example for them is their high-end product like Ball Park where they picture a player in one uniform and say they play for another team. But in most cases they've played for the new team for a couple of years and have TONS of photos in the new uniform. And you're right: their cut signature cards are a joke.

<< <i>Did Adam Wainright even get any wins or strikeouts that year? >>
Actually he did quite well last year. Carpenter was hurt and although he didn't have the career year that he did this year he did go 11-3 last year.

<< <i>My favorite was where UD took a Kraft I think mail in Stargell auto card worth about 20 to 30 bucks at most, cut his sig out of it and made it a one of 25 or something like that and people were paying over 100 bucks for it. I also hate when they cut up Perez postcards for the autos. >>
I know what card you're talking about. I think it was a Nabisco mail-in auto. I've got the same one at home and it's much better than the POS they turned it into by cutting it up. I wish they would stick to index cards for the cuts and leave the nice cards alone. Cutting up a card to make a card seems counterintuitive to me.

<< <i>There's a DIce-K in the set# /30 that has the opening day ticket from Japan that he did start. I want that card. >>
Now THAT would be a nice card to own. I would have liked to see them get some 2006 Game 5 World Series tickets. THAT would have been acceptable.
