Upper Deck redemption replacement question - cards have arrived

I redeemed a Griffey Jr. SP Authentic auto on Feb 1st and have been sick of checking the status of it to find out the same thing - "Athlete expected to sign soon, please be patient" for the past 6 and half months. I called them yesterday and they said they still have no idea when I might get it. Asked about getting something different and they asked who I wanted. Of course i said Dice-K and they asked what team I like. I said Red Sox.

so now this is what the status says:

RADJGFWZQ 2/1/2009 KEN GRIFFEY JR
2008 MLB SP AUTHENTIC BY THE LETTER VETERANS AUTOGRAPHS VARIED #ING CD # BL-KG Replacement Requested 8/26/2009

Any chance I'm gonna get something good? They wouldn't answer me last night about the Dice-K. Book value of the Griffey is 175 so I would assume I should get something halfway decent.

Already have 2 nice Griffey autos or I would have just let that one wait and I'm not a big fan of the signed, manufactured letters anyway. Hope I didn't screw up asking for something else though.

I'd hold out for the griffey and see if they can compensate you some other way for the absurdly long wait time.

I had this situation a little while ago. I had an Icons Lettermen auto redemption of Billy Dee Williams...yes you read that right. Since I really didn't want the card, I requested a replacement when it became evident that he wasn't signing any time soon. My status read "replacement requested" for about a month. I then finally got the redemption card a couple months later. The player was not one of the players I requested, but it was a SP Authentic JJ Hardy Auto Patch RC. Got decent money on it for eBay and certainly more than I would have for the Billy Dee.

Well this is YOU we are talking about Mike!!!!image

You'll probably get a Ted Williams cut.

The redemptions should book the same. My guess is if they don't give you a Dise-K you might get something like a Yaz auto and a box of something

    Let us know!

Mike I have no luck when it comes to redemptions. But If I'm you I would hold out for Griffey but then again I like Griffey Jr.
Good Luck with what ever you do..

I am surprised they can't send you another Griffey auto. UD has so many of his autos in stock, they could just make you a card.

My luck with the UD replacement card has been mixed. One time they sent me a BGS 9 2001 Upper Deck Vick RC and some $20 auto instead of a $200 auto card. One another occasion they sent me a Griffey auto #'d to 10.

The one that p.o.'d me the most is a 2002 SPX Shockey RC that came to me without an auto. The idiot never signed the cards. I took great pleasure in watching that jerk become a bust.

George, I already have 2 very nice Griffey autos or I would have just let that one ride. I should at least get a decent Sox auto I hope.

    1 does not equal 2

UD got off easy on that one!
  • Very nice Dustin.

Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.

Nice cards but I think you got hosed!! I would say something to UD because I dont think those cards add up tp a Griffey auto...but thats just me!!
I am on a budget and I am not afraid to use it!!
  • This reminds me of in 1995 when I sent a bunch of damaged 1995 Select Certified FB commons into Score hoping for replacements. Months later I get a bunch of Mirror Golds and Certified Gold Team inserts back because they were too lazy to replace the exact cards I sent in. Needless to say, it's easy to see how so many "rare" inserts were backdoored by the companies and individual employees.

zep could sell the two and easily pick up a certified Griffey I imagine. You Kill Us auto cards go for $30 plus and Dustin auto RC for around $50...prices vary so much due to Red Sox fandom, but it is fair to think that these are fairly rare (UD likely has most of them still) and may go for a little more. As you can get most Griffey certified autos for ~$50...looks like he did alright.

  • Im sure Mike is pleased with these 2 since he's a Red Sox fan

I'm fine with it. The Sox cards fit into my collection more than another Griffey would. My first Youk auto and my 4th Pedroia auto.

I already have 2 very nice Griffey autos that reside on my living room wall. Probably would have sold the new Griffey anyway (Don't like those manufactured patch cards)

not looking to resell the Sox stuff either, that stuff stays here

Sport Royalty autos were 1 per case this year so there's not a whole lot of that card around and the Pedroia is a semi low # card. Autos didn't fall to often in Legendary Cuts either from what I remember. And both autos are on-card

    my 2 existing Griffeys:

large framed piece I won in a pack wars at the local shop earlier this year

    5x7 Masterpieces boxtopper I pulled in 2007

and now my Red Sox wallpaper looks like this image

You did pretty well, it seems for higher end stuff they put more effort into making it right, although a 2for1 wouldn't make me happy it at least seems fair if you were willing to give up on the Griffey. I was speaking with a wholesaler last week who also runs a small store front (at higher prices obviously) and he's cut back on UD BECAUSE of customer complaints regarding redemptions, he didn't even order a case or Exquisite Basketball which is supposed to be big this year (UD's last NBA release with Panini taking over).
