After 9 Years I Landed My White Whale..I'm Overwhelmed !!!

Good Day,
9 years ago I walked into a Sports Card store in Denver and noticed a Non Sports section. In it was a stack of cards which I came to know inimately as the Topps 1953 Who-Z-At Star Cards set of 80 cards of then Current Top Movie Stars, Esther Williams, Gene Kelly, Errol Flynn, Clark Gable, Ect. That particular stack was very low grade but I became hooked. These were one of Topps early Non Sports sets and the card stock used was very prone to edge wear and seperating and just generally poor manufacturing. At that time I checked PSA, that I was just getting into, and there were a couple of hundred examples graded with 2 8's, no 9's or 10's.
Over the next 9 years I have Graded about 400 of the 1060 graded to date. There has never been an 9 or 10 awarded. It has become almost an obsession to find the first 9 (There will never be a 10 due to card stock). I have tried and tried, and tried and tried, in the meantime sub'ing about 35 of the existing 75 each 8's.
Today Is My Day !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I showed my Loving Wife (Posted Grades) the fruits of years of labor, wishing, dreaming, and perseverance!! She was so supportive....Nodded her head, Smiled at me like I was the Rainman, said That's nice Honey!. Wow !!!(Smirk), and then proceeded to walk out of the room with her eyes rolling and head shaking!!! The only thing she didn't do was pat me on the top of the head!!!!

Neil,
I share your joy of Movie Star grades. I discovered this small but tough set of Rothman cards about 3 years ago. Of the 128 cards, i have submitted 90 of them. Out of the 128, only 3 have received a grade of 9. Congrats on your 1/1 PSA 9!!!
#1 PSA Registry 1925 Rothman Set
But now this set has possessed me---1934 GARBATY
Here are some amazing examples .

<< <i>I am just starting to get into vintage non-sports cards. I am sure this is really know way to tell but what would you guess the value of the psa 8 and 9 to be? Are you planning on keeping them for your personal stash or are you going to sell them? >>
Recently 8's have sold at auction for $200-$400 each, the single Pop's the highest of course. As for the MINT 9, I have no idea but would guess that it could go for as much as $1000-$3000. But it's a moot point, after 9 years of hunting, it's not going anywhere except into my Registered set. I've been working on it for about a year now, went from #9 to #4 with a bullit. Watch out #1, another 3-4 years and I'll be there!
