Topps Box bottoms

How collectible are the Topps Box Bottoms that were produced with picture cards on them? I have not seen any posts considering this, would someone advise me on this topic.

I would say they are extremely rare in mint condition. Most of the remaining ones are scuffed or creased. The trouble is, not many people seem to want them, thus detracting from their "collectability".

Some years and sports are better than others. As a hockey collector I might be biased saying this but one of the most desirable box bottoms is the 1985 OPC or Topps box card of Mario Lemieux. It's from the same set as his rookie card and is difficult to find cut nicely, without creases, and so on. Wayne Gretzky's cards from the boxes are also desirable.

Other good ones come from 1985 Topps football. There's a Montana and a Marino.

I have collected them only for Topps baseball, and only through 1994, but the SCD Standard Catalog lists them and gives a price. How they come up with that price I have no idea. I collected them in whole panels rather tham hand cut individual cards

I think the 85 topps football box bottoms are some of the best cards to come out of the 80s. i love the red borders. i haven't had much luck finding any in decent condition though.

To me and only me they are some of the nicest cards around especially the Lemieux's and Gretzky's.

I agree that the box bottoms are extremely rare and are very hard to find at all let alone in high grade. It took me 7 years of searching to find the 1985 opc box bottom Mario lemieux (pop 1) PSA 9 i have. The next closest grade is ex/mt 6 and its even rare... I am still searching for the 1985 topps box bottom in high grade but there is none available according to the population report. TB

The 1990 is almost the same, except Ryne Sandberg takes Mike Schmidt's place. The player's are even in the same spots on the panel.

I've got a few of these box top cards.

Anyone know of topps boxes before 1983 to have these ?
