Has anyone else had their eBay account hacked lately?

Mine has been hacked and I have been trying for hours to wade through eBay's system to find a phone number to contact someone for help. The automated stuff is not working!
I am buying and trading for RC's of Wilt Chamberlain, George Mikan, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, and Bob Cousy!

  • Sorry to hear that.... I hope they catch the image

Its a good idea to change your password every 6 months or so. I hope you can resolve this fast and hopefully no damage will be done.

Wish I had a number, but I never called ebay myself. I'm pretty sure Storm will chime in and have some answers.

    Good luck with everything!

Greg , Sorry to hear about this.

Most likely Storm will come to the rescue.

Mines was hacked into a few years ago ( nothing there image ) . After that I began using a ridiculus password for my password. So far I haven't had a repeat.--- Sonny

  • It probably has something to do with your snipe service. I just had the same thing happen to me this past hour after happening once a few months ago.

Enter ebay as a guest and click the part that says you are having trouble signing in. Then click the part that says your account has been compromised - it will give a phone number to call. For me it was: 1 800 701 3229. Chances are it is just ebay being extra cautious when it detects another computer (the snipe service) accessing your account. Hope this helps.

I had to change my password today. This happened fairly often when I used Justsnipe. This was the first time with biddingscheduler.

Same thing happened to me. I'm rather pissed off about it because I lost some auctions because of it. image

After a couple of hours it is resolved. But I did miss some auction I really wanted in the mean time!

Below is a list of #s that is several months old.
Some of the numbers may be bad, most should be good.

    ..................

    As noted by jdmi32

Getting "hacked" is different than EBAY telling you somebody
has "hacked" - or attempted to gain access to your account.

A "hacked" account will usually show fast damage; items listed
    that you did not list.

When EBAY-bots do not like the looks of the computer that is
trying to signin to your account, they will send you a message
with instructions on how to get back in the game.

The site is full pf opportunities to contact T&S - security - and they
generally act fairly fast when an unauthorized-use issue is
    complained of.

All EBAYers should make sure they have the best up to date
security on their machines. It does no good to reset a password,
if a crook has put a keylogger - or other malware - on your machine.

I had to change my PW today as well...I was hoping it wasn't a BiddingScheduler issue...but uhoh...eBay must have stock in one of the paid services.

  • 1. glad i dont use a sniping service
    2. in 11 years on ebay (knock on wood) never been hacked.
  • I knew to never use a "snipe" service...

Glad everything turned out ok, but sorry you missed out on your auctions!

I will advise everybody to not give your passwords out to anybody, don't care how fancy their website looks. Remember, they still have workers there making low wages, so they can probably steal passwords at anytime. The service may be good, the website may be good, but some workers may not be...

Not sure what problems you're having, but there is some sort of glitch going on with the watched items list and it has nothing to do with hacking. For the past few weeks, when I've moved in and out of the general "My Ebay" page, it is forcing me to watch whatever auction was displayed in the "saved searches" tab. It looked like a security issue at first because my watched items were full of cards that I had no interest in. For what it's worth, they claim they've been getting a ton of calls for this and there is an open trouble ticket.

Happened to me last night. I have to agree that it is probably biddingscheduler.

Weird thing is, biddingscheduler only works with my old password, but with eBay, I had to update my password. I have a few items scheduled currently...I'll be surprised if I don't get some sort of conflict between the two at the time the bid is supposed to happen.
  • With cybercrimes and identify theft being such rampant and thriving crimes, it's amazing that anyone would give their eBay password to a third-party service. Potentially saving a few bucks with snipes is nothing compared to the threat of identity theft and how it complicates and financially jeopardizes one's life.

If I want a card and can't be around to bid on it in the final minutes I handle it this way:
    1) If it's a lower dollar card, place my high bid even if it's hours before the close.
    2) If it's a higher dollar card, have a trusted person bid for me (wife, brother). My collector brother and I reciprocate for each other this way.

All the while, I enjoy the peace of mind of knowing that only I and my family have passwords.
