1984 NAPCO MLBPA Pencils

Yes, I like 80's oddball items! I always found it odd that Beckett's checklist never matched up to the numbers on the pencils I had and that theirs only went to #18, when the pencils I had were numbered "of 36". This bugged me for years until I saw another auction for small lot of these pencils that featured a Ripken. Lo and behold this Ripken looked the same as mine (pictured below) but was labeled 2nd Series whereas mine was a 1st Series. All the other pencils in this lost were 2nd series and the numbers matched up to Beckett's list. So there are actually 2 Series of these pencils, 36 players in the first, and 18 in the second that feature many of the same players that are in the first. Sadly I lost the auction for the 2nd series Ripken. Anyone else have any of these? They don't pop up too often.

Never seen them before, but those are definitely cool!! Good luck completing the set.

    +1
  • I remember buying them from the school store (where students sold school supplies) when I was in elementary.
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
  • I remember I was conceived around the time these came out
