Hand cut question

If PSA grades the Sports Illustrated for Kids magazine inserts, will they grade:

1990-1993 Topps Magazine inserts?

Baseball Cards, Sports Cards and the other 1980's - early 1990's Magazine inserts?

1990 and 1991 Little Big Leaguers book inserts?

I figure they would given the fact that they do the early-80's All-Star Game inserts and the SIFK but I'd just like to know for certain. Any experience with any of these sets?

Hi I'm not sure but if you look at player registries you can see if they do.

I have been going through a bunch of the registries ( Ryan ones, Griffey ones etc..) but I haven't seen any mention of these issues.

It would be especially weird if PSA didn't recognize the Topps Magazine cards...being officially produced by them and all.

I don't think Topps produced those magazine inserts. I think they simply allowed the magazine to use them.

I may have even read that they did not even do that.

I think he means the inserts that were in Topps Magazine, not the inserts in Baseball Cards magazine that looked like old style Topps cards.

Yes. The officially-issued (within the magazine) Topps Magazine cards. It would be odd if PSA didn't grade them since they were produced and distributed by Topps. I'm just hesitant to send in another batch of cards that PSA won't grade.

As for the Sports Cards and Baseball Cards magazine cards designed like older Topps issues, I imagine they wouldn't grade them but it seems like they should since they accept the All-Star Game and SI For Kids issues. Hopefully someone has experience with grading these issues can chime in.

The Topps ones I could definitely see being graded, but they are probably obscure enough that not many people have sent them in. I would agree that the Baseball Cards magazine inserts should be graded too, they are listed in the SCD Catalog. I would love to the single cut card and the 3 cards strips of all the Ripken's graded!

Why not telephone them then and ask?

Also, just to be clear, a few years ago the forum discussed those magazine cards and from what I remember

they are NOT a topps card. IIRC someone here mentioned that they were NOT legit.

I could be wrong.

I was trying (poorly) to note the difference between the magazine cards that look like Topps cards ( which may be NOT be considered legit ) and the magazine cards that were produced (with all proper copyrights etc.) by Topps.

The ones that aren't produced by Topps are, however, listed in the SCD annual guide, which suggests that SCD, at least, considers them "legit" issues. I think these are the cards you may have read about previously and definitely seem debatable.

On the other hand, Topps Magazine cards were 100% legitimately produced and distributed by Topps in issues of Topps Magazine from 1990-1993 and are also listed in the SCD annual guide.

Hope that helps describe them a little better.

Also, yeah, I guess a simple call would probably work. Leave it to me to not have even considered that option!

I looked at the pop report, and yes, PSA grades the Topps Magazine insert cards.

BBC Magazine didn't have officially licensed cards. Did SI Kids? I'm guessing so, might be part of their overall license to write about teams/players and show pictures of them.

The Topps Magazine cards have been graded. Check out the Nolan Ryan Master Set. The 1990 is in there.

Yep, whenever I need to know if they grade a specific card I look at the Ryan or Mantle master player set.

If they do grade those cards will most probably be in those sets.

Good info to know for the next time.
