I don't mean to be a pain here either, but eBay can charge those fees because they're the only game in town for many people. Believe me, you wouldn't rather go back to selling your cards at Yard Sales and to Card Shop owners. You would be netting far less than what you do on the free market on eBay. Should there be another site to compete? Sure, but it'll be almost impossible to break into such an established market.

I tend to agree. And IMO, remembering what it was like back in the day (and today) trying to sell your cards to shops and dealers, and being offended at just about every offer made to me, I think ebay is quite worth the fees, in that I am now more "the dealer" than the "sucker."
They do have the 5 free listings (no insertion fee) every 30 days, which helped me a bit on the high dollar vintage that I've sold recently. I feel your pain on the fees though, cuz it is not cheap to sell there. Being an optimist, I guess I just find ways not to be pissed about it.

I'm a little surprised that it took 22 minutes for someone to tell me to sell my goods elsewhere and then another 23 minutes for someone to second the motion.

I remember being offended at every offer until I went into business myself and realized that a dealer who offered me $5 for a card that booked for $20, probably sold the card for $15 and out of the $10 profit had to pay $1 in taxes, $1 in overhead, andothe r$1 in utility and on top of that hope that the card didnt go down and value. It was only after knowing all that goes into a business that the $5 WAS a generous offer and is probably double what the same scenario would bring today. But alas, I was young and ignorant about the real world back then.
Clydecoolidge, The five free listings sometimes are not a good way to sell the high dollar items. Ebay "FORGETS" to tell you they charge a straight 8.75% fee on these upto a max of $20. Normally it is 8.75% upto the first $25, then 3.5% after. So, if the item sells for less than $530 you just paid ebay more in fees. Assuming you are using an auction style format and starting at 99 cents. It took me a couple of $250 cards to figure this out.

Actually right here on CU, you can sell your items and pay 0%
Just the Paypal 3% fee if the buyer chooses that venue.
When I offer something here, I'm usually 10% cheaper then what I list it
on my eBay store knowing eBay won't get that 10%, so I have a cushion.
