Game used shoes, Allen Iverson, Michael Redd, and Jermaine O'Neal

Just like the 2008 Redeem team poster I posted the thread about earlier, I'm also wondering what you think these shoes might be worth.

They are all authentically autographed, game worn shoes.

Would it add enough premium to them to be worth it to get them authenticated by so called "game used experts"? Does PSA do any of that? What's people's opinions of Mears game used authentication service?

Thanks,

Mike

  • You can get them authenticated by MEARS, but the highest grade they will get is a 5 I believe, since with jerseys they only give high numbers with items that have a team/player letter.

Head over to gameusedforum.com , where I'm also a member of, but I don't know anything about basketball shoes.

There are a few shoe collectors that can help you out, and give you a realistic value of them.

MLB authenticates their own items. Does the NBA do anything like that? If so, since your friend works for them, maybe they can be authenticated that way?

I would contact Upper Deck or Panini with those. Panini may be in the market for GU material and those fit pretty well.
  • The Leagues only authenticate items that they sell. They don't offer 3rd party authentication.

Best bet is MEARS for the shoes.

Mike - if you get a solid value and could let me know the source that would be great - I have about 10 pairs of gu/auto shoes I am curious about for myself.

Had a pair of John Stockton shoes a few years back. Had a COA from Scott Layden, son of coach Frank Layden. They sold for $200 after a period of time. People either intensely collect them or despise them. Very few dabble in shoes, and usually they are team or player collectors. As for prices:
    J. O'Neal $75-$100 I can get a pair from 2002-03 for $90, was a size 15 at the time.
    M. Redd $75-$100 Maybe just a bit less.
    A. Iverson $125-$150 A couple years ago they would get more but he has really fallen off since leaving the 76ers.
A COA is not worthwhile. Paying for someone's "opinion" is a waste. Do some homework yourself, check Getty Images and some other online photosites, as well as some cards, Checkoutmycards is a good resource for viewing pics free. Find a stylematch. Guys who collect sneakers know if they are good or not right away.
