1964 Hank Aaron PSA 9 ST... thoughts

I just received this card today from PSA. Thoughts on its value are appreciated(maybe LOL). I guess I was so concerned with its corners and surface, I totally forgot about the back. It's the only '64 Aaron PSA 9 with a qualifier.

When the wax has sunk into the paper on the back, you're not getting it out.

Still a nice looking card. It'd probably sell for a lot better than a PSA 7 price.

Very nice looking card and not much of a stain. I agree with digicat that it should bring in better than 7 money if you're selling it.

    PSA 7.5. Chaz.

Seriously, I'd echo the thoughts of those previously stated. Also would be a really nice card for someone's raw set.

I wouldn't sell it for less than an 8 goes for. That card could be an 8 even with the wax. 7 money is giving it away (I'd take it for 7 money image )

dam shame - still a beautiful card.
  • That isn't much of a stain at all.

It's been a while since a 7 sold; however, the average price for a PSA 7 is $89.11. PSA 8s average $235.74. It's quite possible that you can get "8 money" out of that card as the stain appears to be minor at best.

Here are some recent sales for you to look at:

    08-09-2009 $867.54 PSA 9 EBAY 380144481728 Feedback

    Hope that helps.

I think its a great looking card, and I completely agree with BoSox1976, I will give PSA 7 money+ for it right now.

Wow. I would buy that for PSA 7 money all day long. You should get close to PSA 8.

    Very nice.

    Nice card.

    Good for you.
  • I don't collect '64 or Aaron, but I'm curious about this card. When I saw the title of the thread and then the front of the card, I thought the stain was on Mr. Aaron's face, and I thought that sure was a terrible place for the stain. Obviously it's on the back and the line on his face is in the original and probably the shadow of his cap. Still, I'm not sure I've ever seen a card with such an obvious shadow on the player's face. To me, it lowers the appeal of the card a great deal. Anybody agree?

As far as the stain, that is tough luck. I've heard you can submit cards with the specific request for no qualifier...as others have said, you probably have a decent shot an 8.

Psa generally will not net grade a 64 topps card if it has a stain or is marked.

Those will normally get the ST or MK qualifier.

1914 and 15 cracker jacks will get net graded, while early Bowmans will not suffer any consequences when submitted
    with stains on the reverse.

Yes, that is the shadow on his face. All Aaron '64 Topps look like that. My scan doesn't do the front of the card justice.

That looks like the "good back wax", not the evil staining variety.

I agree, it appears that it is on top of the card.

Might be able to get it off.

    Good for you.
  • I had the same type stain on a '64 Tops in NL Mays/Musial graded PSA 7ST. I tried to remove the stain... and maybe I did to some extent, but when it was resubmitted it came back as a straight PSA 6. I might be happy to sell this card for around "8 money", then buy a 7 for my set and be thrilled if someone on the boards here got the straight 9. Just sayin'...
