What's the best way to grade a 1950's vintage card that has an ink mark? Image added

If a card would make a PSA 8 or 9 but has a small pin head size ink mark on the back how much does that kill the grade from PSA?

Will it have a PD?

What are the pros and cons of getting a NQ?

    Jim

Is the ink from the factory or after factory?

If from factory it may not hurt the grade at all. If after factory you will possibly get the MK qualifier.

Looks like a ball point ink mark

Then it is very possible it will get a MK qualifier if the grader thinks it is after factory.

Send it to SGC. They are way more lenient on paper loss, ink etc.

    Hi Jim

The MK qualifier is a deal stopper for cards in the 50s IMO - except perhaps a Mantle RC or something.

Now, in the prewar stuff - I think people are more forgiving - at least that's my experience.

To add, e.g., the OC qualifier has really caused values to drop more than in the early to mid-90s.

    What's the card?

50/50 that PSA graders would even catch that. Send it in.

I think Bosox is right unless it may be a 9, then they make take another close look.
