OK...so I place my bid of 40.86. Then seconds later he places his bid (which was $41.00) I thought his next bid would have had to have been atleast 41.26
Ebay should not have taken his bid...if I understand it correctly.

yeah, I saw that on second look. I'm not sure about how the snipe effects it, if at all. You might want to send ebay a question about it.
You can lose by any amount if that bid is placed prior to your bid. That being said, the bid history you posted makes it look like the bid was entered after yours, so I would think it should have had to meet the next minimum bid to be accepted.
You bid 40.86. THe previous high bid was 35.05. That means after you bid, the high price is in the 35.55. (Your high bid was not the current bid) He just happened to bid 14 c higher than your min bid. and he won it....
You were the high bidder at $35.55, so his minimum bid would have only had to be $36.05 when he bid, not $41.26. Since he had a higher max then you, he won.
<< <i>This is easy....I think I can figure it out.

Sometimes the difference between the current high bid and the user's maximum bid is less than the minimum bid increment and the sniper is unable to bid.

<< <i>What was the auction at when the other bidder put in his $41? I've lost plenty of auctions below what's to be the next minimum bid amount. >>
I just looked and figured it out. The auction was only at 35.55 cents (since my under bidder had only bid 35.05)
So the bid of 41 over took it.
man...i must be tired.
thanks
