Scanning help...

Okay, here is the problem. Raw cards and PSA cards are no problem. My problem is with SGC and BVG slabs. I use a piece of black construction paper and then close the lid. Well, with the SGC & BVG slabs being thicker, it raises up the construction paper and allows some light in, hence making my scans "foggy". I've also done it with the lid open but they still end up with a line down the middle or light gets in some way to make the scan hazy/foggy. Any help is appreciated. I have an HP6310 all in one that is about 3 years old.

    try using a cardboard frame around the holder - either buy the mat in the store or just cut it out yourself - if you can get black mat cardboard, all the better - you could even just cut some strips and tape them to frame the card and holder - use this in conjunction with the construction paper.

    I just installed an air conditioner - I thought the thin black foam weatherstripping would also make a good frame and be easy to cut - or, easier yet, instead of construction paper cover your holder and scanner bed with black cloth or a dark towel which drapes over the edges and should keep light out. Sometimes an additional problem is the plastic holder lifts the card out of focus for the scanner - I recently bought a CanoScan 8800F which gives me a much better result on items that can't lie exactly flat on the scanner glass.
