Strong price for Hank Aaron card...thoughts?

This auction ended tonight at about twice what it usually goes for...any ideas why?

Completed Auction

I'll admit that I'm interested in part because I have such a card. Not that I'm looking to sell or anything.
It just seems like a lot, especially because this one's been up since Feb:

Available BIN

I don't think there's any way the one that ended tonight could get a bump to a 9, do you?

Here's mine for fun:

Seems like there are many auctions which end higher than buy it nows that are available. The auction item looks the worst of the 3 and would not bump in my opinion based on the corners, both yours and the memory lane look nice, I would send yours in for a review and would not be surprised if moved a 1/2 to full grade up.

Your front appears to be the better of the 3.

(I cannot really tell what the black stuff on the
front of yours is. By the hitter, above the sig.)

    None of them are 9s.

Yours might be worth trying for a .5 review bump.

  • That is a beautifull card! image

I think it could cross to a PSA 9, and I think the centering is better on this card, than the one with the BIN...

2 bidders with crazy proxy/snipe bids

3rd highest bid was under $1K

I doubt Memory Lane has not tried a few times to get that in a 9 or even an 8.5. We use to talk about these guys once a day
so they are not new to the scene.

I too have this card in PSA 8 and actually saw a couple at the National with price tags of $1,100-1,200 each. I think it is an over book card most of the time depending on appearance. Second year cards are actually starting to go up as many can't afford rookies in PSA 8 so they start to look for second year cards. I am also a fan of the 1955 set as I think they are the most beautiful cards of the 50's. The set has 3 big rookies of Koufax, Killebrew and Clemente. Second year of Aaron and nice higher dollar cards of Mays and Snyder. Great set with plenty of big boys for the collector. I agree that Jeff's has a good shot at the .5 bump. I just never understood the bidders that just don't check to see if there are any bin's out there. Just goes to show that when auctions start the adrenaline kicks in oftentimes costing the winner hundreds in the end?!

The card in the completed auction link, (sundiegowills) looks like an older graded card. (I could be wrong)

0 certs were used last year. With that said it appears like a good candidate for review.

That may be a reason why 2 folks put in all out bids.

Nice 8's of 55 Aaron usually command 1k+ so this one got around 400.00 above that.

2 people thought it was worth it. The third wanted it at average price.

    Hi Jeff,

I agree with fkw's post. Looks like two "I've-got-to-have-that-card" proxy bidders drove the price to an unheard of high!

Before sniping companies were popular, it used to happen all the time. Those were the good ole days, if you were a seller!

Your card is a beauty, incidentally!
