One of the most annoying things as a seller is how buyers take shipping/materials/handling costs for granted. The annoyance is compounded by the Final Value Fee and Paypal transaction costs, which leaves you with essentially nothing...then you get emails like this...might as well just have your wife slap you in the face for participating in such silly wasteful activities.
You need to apologize for the confusion, then reimburse him 78 cents since you mistakenly did not put enough postage on the package. I would also make sure you refund 78 cents and just send him 78 cents.
<< <i>Dude, read the email the guy sent you: "it was marked on the envelope postage due of .78 cents."
That means he had to pay, out of pocket (on top of what you charged him for s/h) an additional .78 cents at the post office. >>
If Rich is trying to say that you were out of line, Tommy, then he is right. Whether shipping is free or some exhorbitant amount, the recipient should not have to pay additional postage upon delivery. You should send him his $0.78 and apologize for the misunderstanding.

The buyer paid $3.95 for shipping which should be more than enough to cover the shipping/materials/handling for one slabbed PSA card including DC. I don't think he was taking anything for granted, but he's pissed off because the post office wanted more $.
I would be pissed too if I were the buyer, and as the seller, I would glady (and apologetically) pay him the $0.78.
if i pay you "x" amount to ship my item to me, and the P.O. then wants additional funds, i would be rather frustrated.....i would also treat it as a small-time issue and try to resolve it amicably, it's pocket change for KrissKriss-sakes!

I totally understand after catching the postage due issue. I just went on a little paypal rant, way off topic sorry.
I shipped it at the post office. I didnt put the postage on it. They weighed it and then charged me an amount. Why the f*#@ would it need more postage?
<< <i>I shipped it at the post office. I didnt put the postage on it. They weighed it and then charged me an amount. Why the f*#@ would it need more postage? >>
I'd suggest taking it up with the post office.
AFTER you give the buyer the $.78 he had to pay over and above his agreed-upon price.
<< <i>I shipped it at the post office. I didnt put the postage on it. They weighed it and then charged me an amount. Why the f*#@ would it need more postage? >>
Hence:
"> Hi Tommy, I received the card yesterday. I do have a problem as it was marked on the envelope postage due of .78 cents. I don't know why the post office did not charge you the correct amount but I hope you will reimburse my paypal account for the difference. > Thanks, > Tim"
I would pay him the 78 cents but also ask for a scan or picture of the package that shows the postage due. I would then take it up with your PO about why there was additional postage due. Not really the buyers fault that he had to pay more postage. Of course with your reply back to him, it may be to late to resolve this on good terms. If I were the buyer now I'd probably neg you for your smarta** reply.
buyer does not sound sound pissed off. his email was professional and just asked for his .78 cents back. he probably got pissed after the seller's response.
I just sent an apology email to the buyer and will refund his $.78 . This really pisses me off though at the post office. Why in the hell would they weigh something and put an amount on it and then charge more after I already paid?
<< <i>I just sent an apology email to the buyer and will refund his $.78 . This really pisses me off though at the post office. Why in the hell would they weigh something and put an amount on it and then charge more after I already paid? >>
I would still ask the buyer for a picture of the package so you can bring it to your PO and ask why the heck there was additional postage due.
ok, so me not taking the time to fully comprehend his email is one of the dumber things I've done, today anyway. Oh well. The chicken strips and ear of corn I just had from KFC more than makes up for it though.
A good P.O. worker will stamp "postage verified" on packages that weigh in real close the the next price level. Otherwise, another PO along the weigh might have a meter that weighs it slightly heavier, putting it in higher weight class. This probably happened in your case.
I would definitely ask for a picture of the postage due...they usually stamp on the package postage due and then write in an amount. I would ask if he has the correct seller too.
lol, so I'm going back through my ebay auctions and the guy that bought this card is no longer a registered user on ebay. Did he really just get me for $.78? If so, good scam.
<< <i>ok, so me not taking the time to fully comprehend his email is one of the dumber things I've done, today anyway. Oh well. The chicken strips and ear of corn I just had from KFC more than makes up for it though. >>

I'm glad you have a sense of humor. That's too bad that the post office screwed up. I still think you did the right thing. It's your responsibility to get the card there.
The only KFC around here just closed a little while back.
My guess is that your package was not the minimum 3/4" thick, and was bumped to priority rate by an individual at the receiving PO. They probably receive a bounty for each "catch". Your window clerk will now have to be retrained....Not as bad as it sounds though, the weeklong retraining is held once a year in Hawaii.
<< <i>Tommy you make 200k a year and you are worrying about .78?
The PO that you went to calculated wrong for some reason and the PO where the buyer lives caught it.
It really is a non issue, even for those of us who are disabled and on public assistance.

Steve, Thanks for you input. When I misinterpreted the buyers email (my stupidity), I thought he was complaining about the price I charged for shipping. That is a huge pet peeve of mine since it is easy for people to simply not buy things when they don't like the stated shipping charges. Now, if I had misled a buyer about shipping then that would be different. Otherwise, go by the listing and bid accordingly.
It's kind of like when the guy at the Krystal drive through leaves one of my Krystal's out. Yeah, I've got 5 other Krystal's in the bag and they only cost $.89 but I paid for 6 of them and that idiot should have gotten the order right since that is what he is paid to do. And yes, I'll drive all the way back to Krystal just to cuss somebody out for leaving a Kyrstal out.
I know, it doesn't make a lot of sense when I'll throw a handful of money into the air at a dance club (ala Pacman) or spend ungodly amounts of money on cardboard, but can get so upset when I get slighted at a fast food joint.
