1961 Fleer Basketball Wax Pack question?

I was trying to find the answer online, and I could not find the answer. Can someone please tell me how many cards an unopened 1961 Fleer Basketball Wax Pack contains?? I see how some flips claim they can see what either the front card is or the last card is in the pack? Is that possible? I always thought the packs were hard to see through. Also, do you trust the newer GAI flips? Thanks for all the help....

Bobby ... I Cant help you with the # of cards ... HOWEVER ... I would NOT purchase ANYTHING in any GAI slab except one with the First Flip. The 2nd and 3rd flip are toooooooooo much of a risk~! JMO!

If you are planing on busting one, just know that they were in sequence like the 1986-87 Fleer BK packs. If you are hoping to pull the key card it may be a little harder than you think.

I dont know the sequence. But I thought in the 1961 Fleer Basketbal ALL CARDS WERE GOOD?!?!?! I dont have to get a "key" card...I would be just as happy getting a Willie Nauls (Or some other random common...I just picked the first name to come to mind) in a PSA 9!!!! I thought all cards were random?? If the current Memory Lane auction has one with Elgin Baylor on top, what would the sequence of cards be?

The biggest problem with the 1961 Fleer cards is the centering issues. It may not be a good idea to open one and find that the majority of them have qualifiers. Packs like that are much more valuable unopened.

Yea....but wouldnt you want to rip a 1961 Fleer pack just once? As long as it was legit, and just one of the cards came back a PSA 9, how could you lose?

With the cards being in sequence and only a few cards in each pack. If the card showing is OC and you know the sequence of 1961 Fleer packs, then all of them will be OC. If you find one with a centered card showing, then maybe. There were a few cases discovered. And it is only a guess but I think the packs may have been cherry picked by now. With the remaining packs that are unopened , it will be hard to come out on top opening a 1961-62 Fleer wax pack. I would only do so if a dealer had a box just pulled from a case. Just my thought. It's a treasure of a pack and I would not recommend opening one.

I thought there were six cards per '61 Fleer pack for a nickel, or at today's prices $1000.

I posted this story earlier, I watched a 61 Fleer BKB mini rip pack war at a show. I seem to remember 8 cards per pack, but 6 may be correct. Centering was all over the place, but the Chamberlain one guy pulled was dead 50/50. Some weird print marks too on some of the cards. No wax stains if I remember. Cards were certainly nice re: corners and edges, the packs were sealed very tight.

Really was remarkable that it looked like ripping a wax pack from today, even though at the time it was approx 40 years old.

One sequence I remember was Bill Russell IA, then a common, then Wilt. The pack with KC Jones had absolutely NOTHING in it. If I remember, the cards were not in order orientation wise.

I think its 6. And 66 cards in the set, 1 in 11 chance of pulling any card.

Similar to 86 fleer, 12 cards per pack, 132 in the set, one in 11.

You use to be able to find the packs in the 90's for about $500 a piece. Then since grading got more popular, and the packs got scarcer, the price has risen. Now you never seem them anymore. But would be great to open up.

I'm kind of disappointed in Mark Murphy's catalog on packs...

where he is comprehensive with BB and lists # of cards per pack, with Bkb he doesn't.

I opened a GAI 7 graded 1961 Fleer bskt pack from BBCE in 2007. Absolutely zero star cards in the pack, best card was a PSA 7. There were 6 cards in the pack I believe. Centering for the entire packed was bad. You are better off buying a 69 Topps basketball pack, more cards and a better chance at a star in decent condition. Paid in the $700 range I think.
