Jordan Ultra PSA 10

eBay Link

Anyone know what these usually sell for in raw mint condition?

I know its the only PSA 10 graded and there is only three of the same cards graded PSA 9.

So four graded in total by PSA.

Not sure if I should bid or not....I do not want to go too overboard.

What you guys think?

This is a pretty rare card. The rate of insertion for Series I is 1:180 packs, which means to pull a particular player would be 1 in about 27,000 packs.

A lot of money, but they don't come up very often.

    Good luck.

Oh, the POWER of THE REGISTRY.

Sorry I can't help you out with your question, but I cannot believe people would pay that kind of money for that card. WOW!

That price is registry la-la land now.

If I were a diehard jordan collector, I guess I might feel differently, but if I was going to spend $800+ on a Jordan card, it'd be on his rookie.

I haven't really tracked past raw sales of that card but I do know that it is one of the 90's inserts that still sells well the few times it comes up for sale. If you do bid on the card, you will need to be prepared to outbid the #1 collector of the Jordan registry. For these 1/1 cards and other low pop Jordans, I have not seen him get outbid. I'm working on the Jordan registry too and I've lost quite a few cards to his snipes. This particular card is waaay out of my league so I won't be bidding.

It's a limited card (less than 250 made) to begin with. I'd guess not only registry guys are bidding on it.

I'm thinking the print run on the Platinum Medallions was around 150, at least that's what it was supposed to be in '97 Ultra baseball, which is the same design. I have Platinum Medallions in my saved searches (I do Ultra Dodger team sets) - the PMs come up very seldom, and even raw copies of superstar players go for very nice coin. That being said, $800+ for a Jordan 10 still seems pretty crazy.

This is the kind of card I think I would be patient and try to pick up at a show - ya probably could get a nice buy on it.

It would be nice if people around here knew what they were talking about. Tough Jordan inserts from 1992-1998 have always brought big money, even before the registry was concocted.

There is exactly one guy trying to put together a Jordan master registry set. If this truly was a registry battle, the high bidder would've won it for $150 because nobody else is trying to complete the set. This, the 92 Fleer All Star and Team Leader, misc refractors, etc..., have always brought good money. This is just what these cards bring and it has nothing to do with the registry. It's amazing to me that people find it hard to believe that there are collectors out there willing to pay good money for tough PSA 10s of the greatest basketball player of all time.

Edit to add- Gonblott, they sell for about $50 raw.

    Mike is right!

That is one nice card image but like Mike said, you can probably find that at a show somewhere, for waaaay less than that PSA 10 and you might also get a good grade on it.

Print run is 250 according to Beckett. There is none of this particular card there but there is a # 143 &
280 from the same set and print run for 137.00 each. Guess who has them?

    Thanks.

Call me crazy but I think I might go for it.....rare inserts have a history of going for big $$.

There are four graded in total, this one being the only 10, the rest are graded 9.

As far as high dollar graded goes, tough Jordan's are really a better investment than most of the stuff out there. Think about it- prices have always been strong, there is no registry competition yet and he is the greatest player to ever play. If collectibles don't take a nosedive as a whole (which they could), rare Jordan stuff will always be desirable.

Another Jordan that has always gone for big numbers at auction over the years, here you go.

If you guys need a good price guide for some of the rare Jordan auto cards, check this site out here.

That site has been very helpful to me in the past.

I think the $50 sell value raw is way off. I cannot remember the last one I saw sell, but this card books $200 and is hard to find. A 98-99 Ultra Platinum Jordan /99 sold for over $400.
  • CDsNutsCDsNuts Posts: 10,092
    Allen,
I think you're right. I was going by the last auction, but it was apparently the less desirable "Step it Up" card #280. The regular Jordan Platinum has sold for $208 and $234 in the last two raw auctions.

it amazes me that people will pay more than $50 for a card slabbed in plastic. I bet a nice 9 would go for a lot less image then submit until it becomes a ten!
  • AllenAllen Posts: 7,165 ✭✭✭
Lee- that step it up is from series 2 also and the odds of Platinums in series 1 (1:180) drops to (1:100) for series 2.

I agree, PSA 10s are stupid. But when the card sells well raw something like this seems more reasonable to me than a 1975 Topps common selling for $500 or an 86 Topps Nolan Ryan selling for $1,000+. To me, the Jordan is along the same lines as a 1984 Topps Marino selling for $5k or a 1982 Topps Traded Ripken selling for $1,500. At least the card is desirable without the slab.
