Which Topps baseball set to start- '62 or '65

I have 71 of the '62 cards to include Mantle's regular card and also the Mays & Aaron AS cards, I would call it EX+ for the avg. I have 37 near mint '65 commons with no stars included. If I did the '62 set, the goal would be EX-MT. If I did the '65 set I'd like it in NM. Both sets would include raw & graded cards BTW.

I think it depends on several factors.

    1. Eye appeal - Which one looks better to you? I love the 65's, but there is something appealing about the 62's. Can't quite explain it.
    2. Star power - In 62 there is a Stan Musial and a Lou Brock rookie. In 65 there is Pete Rose, Steve Carlton rookie and Joe Morgan rookie.
    3. Variations and errors - Do you like chasing them down? If so, 62 is a dream. If not, it can be a nightmare.
    4. Condition - The 62's can occasionally be tough to track down without chipping on the wood borders. And some photos are way out of focus. But a nice 62 is as nice as they come.
    5. Costs - I think they are fairly comparable if you are just doing a basic set in similar conditions.

Funny you should be picking between these two, as I find them on VERY opposite ends of the spectrum. One is very colorful and bold, and the other is very subdued. I guess I have a preference to the 62's. But hey, that's just me.

1962 would be more of a challenge.

I prefer the looks of the '65 set but have a little better start on the '62. Maybe I'll sell the 62s I have and use the $$ on the '65 set.

I like the 65's better, but you can't wrong with 62's either. Good luck and enjoy the ride.

Both are great sets. Personally, I prefer the 62 as the wood grain borders are appealing and the photography is underrated. However, if you prefer the 65 I think you should choose it then.

Sell them both and do the 1955 bowman set - most underrated set for Technicolor-type photography and old ballpark color backgrounds that there is. But if you HAVE to do one or the other, I'd go with the one you already have the Mantle on - will save you money later.

62 is a classic set. But tough - I'd do it though

Do the 62 set because I want to do the 65 I don't want another guy getting my cards. image
    Only kidding ..

They are 2 great sets but the 62 will be harder. I hope to do each of them myself.
