Stone's Points to Ponder

Points to Ponder

It’s been some time since I put one of these out – the band is off for the rest of the summer – so I have more time on my hands – not necessarily a good thing! image

1. How come ya can be home for 3 straight days – leave the house for 5 minutes and your registered PSA sub comes while you’re out!

2. Don’t ya find it interesting that every time something “juicy” happens here – then and ONLY then, do we see strange ID’s with low post counts and memberships that started in like 2001?

3. Don’t ya just find it very interesting that almost 20 yrs passing – there’s still a “load” of ’89 UD wax out there?

4. Why is it that the guy who ‘hates’ the modern stuff is the one to head over to his local shop – buy ONE pack of Topps Heritage and pull an incredible 1/1 auto!!!

5. My friend called a big-time dealer with a tagline: “always buying” and he “wasn’t interested.” Go figure?

6. Why is it when I’m “selling” to a dealer – it’s Exmt – but when he’s sellin’em they’re now MINT!

7. Has anyone ever met the “Grader of Death?”

8. Was Vargha a real person or just a figment of Scumbi’s imagination?

9. If ya retire your Registry set – does it get a pension?

10. Card Doctoring…shouldn’t it be covered under Obama’s new health initiative?

That's enough for now - and remember, it's better to look good than to feel good!

image I was thinking the same thing! Don't you love wwhen you see them come with 6 posts since 2002 image

I think the answer is simple, we all love drama, myself included image

Another thing I wonder, how do all these people with 10 posts and been members since 1998 even remember their username and/or password???

Let me edit that and say "friendly" drama. I don't belive in drama drama.

I always love this. The three card shows I've been to in the last 5 years, every dealer has a sign that says "Always Buying" with dollar signs strewn throughout. Yet somehow, none of them were interested in any of the graded cards my friend had brought with him to sell. I think their sign needs to be modified to "Always buying old collections from people who don't know s--t about cards".

Like mine maybe? I can only speak for myself but here are a few possible reasons -

    1. A lot of posts are more like chats between old friends who maybe wouldn't appreciate
a relative stranger interjecting and when they do they are usually ignored.

    2. I don't really feel the need to pad totals with smiley faces, "I agree with you", "nice pull",
"PSA 6 Chaz", or "I'm sorry this happened to you" posts.

    3. Usually when somebody has a serious question they will get an educated and well thought
out response from people like Stone193. I am not trying to be sarcastic here. He has a better
knowledge base then myself as well as a great majority of the regular posters here and I enjoy
reading them as well as posts from WinPitcher, BooPotts, Rogermnj, IJustLoveCards, and
    lawnmowerman among many others.

When I first read the 2008 Sweet Spot Hobby mess up at Wal-Mart no one had as yet
responded to the OP. While I didn't find it hard to believe the immoral and unethical behavior
of the OP what really disgusted me was the example he was setting for his son and his arrogance
and cluelessness for bragging about it on a public forum. I agree 100% with Stone193's posts to
the OP but one of the main reasons I didn't respond was because I knew that many regular posters
including Stone193 would wonder why - every time something “juicy” happens here – then and
ONLY then, do we see strange ID’s with low post counts and memberships that started in like 2001?

Same reason why bills are delivered on-time with 100% accuracy, but "the check is always in the mail."

An educated opinion on cards? That takes years and years of knowledge and experience. An educated opinion on something "juicy"? We all have our double doctorate in that field of study.

<< <i>3. Don’t ya just find it very interesting that almost 20 yrs passing – there’s still a “load” of ’89 UD wax out there? >>

In 100 years, there will still be loads of 1988 Donruss out there.

<< <i>4. Why is it that the guy who ‘hates’ the modern stuff is the one to head over to his local shop – buy ONE pack of Topps Heritage and pull an incredible 1/1 auto!!! >>

The allure of gambling is perhaps the strongest force in the universe.

    << <i>6. Why is it when I’m “selling” to a dealer – it’s Exmt – but when he’s sellin’em they’re now MINT! >>

I'm not sure. But it's probably the same reason why a dealer, who lists a card with a Buy It Now price of $1,000.00, declines to purchase the same exact card from you for $500.00.

<< <i>7. Has anyone ever met the “Grader of Death?” >>

I probably saw him at a PSA Public Friday, but didn't know it was him.

He picked the wrong year though. Just like Ted Williams hitting .406 and losing the MVP to Dimaggio in 1941, Felicia already has poster of the year won by a mile.

That was the reason I posted what I did above...I've been registered here since 2002 and have a little over 90 posts in 7 years. I know Stone from other hobby circles and knew he'd get a kick out of that.

But you're right, there are lots of reasons somebody can stay registered here and not post much. In my case, I joined in 2002 and though I lurked often I didn't post for about 10 months. I have a hobby site and it took somebody quoting my site to get me to make my first post. However, there was a lot of troll activity then and I posted sporadically for the next year and a half, opining when I had something to say.

Then I went away for several years. I didn't post much here from 2004 (just after the active hurricane season we had in Florida that year) until now. I just found other uses for my time. I never left the hobby -- in fact, I'm in contact with several other regular posters here elsewhere -- but it took a long time for me to come back on here.

I don't think he meant anything malicious and certainly wasn't targeting you. But like you, I think it's best to just post when I have something to add.

    Take care,
    Chris

Michael, ya missed the wink icon there.

I was the first to be given poster of the year around 3 or 4 yrs ago.

But, I don't post for that goal - I post because:

    1. I like you and the people here.

    2. I love what I collect and the hobby and believe there will always be a hobby to rely on for fun and personal enjoyment.

    3. I really like sharing what I've learned and what I'm thinking about the hobby and what I collect or read.

    4. My wife thinks this stuff is nuts! image
