Looks good for the price. I would think PSA 4-5ish if graded due to the left border damage.

Hard to get the 55' Banks for that price unless its got some problems. Yours seem nice, centering top to bottom might of been why you might have gotten a good deal on it. Still a nice card.

Buying vintage raw on ebay is a GAMBLE.

When you do win, it is a nice return, but how ofter does that happen !!
  • Wow, that is disappointing...nothing worse than opening a bubble mailer and finding something completely different than what you expected.

What a loser the seller is. Have you mentioned who he/she was so that no one else buys from this dips%&t? I am glad it worked out for you in the end.

  • I've bought hundreds of raw cards on ebay and have indeed received the occasional trim job but never have I had someone switch a card , especially a decent looking one for one that is worthless other than as a filler. This person is a true scumbag. I know that it's only cards but man people like this seriously need their butt kicked.

I can relate. I just received a card I paid $100+ for that is trimmed (way short). Seller states he doesn't accept returns in the auction listing. I've contacted him, so we'll see. Getting a card that's a grade off is to be expected. Getting a different or altered card is not acceptable!

Update: I just received email from the seller asking where her card is???!!! i already received the paypal refund...am I obligated to send back, and if so can she claim non-receipt and get the refund reversed??? I emailed her back and told her to send $5 to my paypal account for shipping/handling fee just like she charged in the auction.

Claude - have never got in this kind of situation - perhaps asking ebay/paypal how to handle it would be a good way to go?

    ////////////////////////////////

UNLESS PayPal has told you that the card was exempt from
the return-to-seller provisions of the Buyer Protection scheme,
you are obligated to return the card to the seller AT your own
    expense.

The "exemption" would have to be based on a "counterfeit
    item" issue.

IF the seller knows which buttons to push at PayPal, she
can get the refund reversed if you cannot PROVE - via DC -
    that the card was returned.

    ...........

Be sure to put the seller on your BBL to avoid the possibility of her retaliating.

See if she pays the 5.00, if not then just send it back with DC on your dime.

I see after not emailing you when you had a problem she is now when she has one.

    Steve
    Good for you.

Go figure huh? I still don't understand why he/she would mess up their very first auction on ebay. It's not like they were listing a 52 Mantle and trying to scam someone for thousands of dollars.

They had to know that the buyer was going to complain about the pos card that was sent. I just don't see the point?

    That's just sad.

One thing stands out in the item description (well to me anyway).

ERNIE BANKS TOPPS CARD #28 1956

    GOOD CONDITION

This is clearly not if using grading terms good condition.

    image

But this might have fallen under that if it wasn't trimmed (which it appears to be).

This is what I'm thinking. Some sellers think that borrowing a scan is ok. They look at it like stock photos and don't even give it a second thought when using them.

maybe this seller was just ignorant, and like stated, used a stock photo and thought nothing of it. Most of my non collector friends dont think there is a difference between good and exmt.

Maybe the seller should have stated that fact then too.

Bottom line the seller needs to be educated then.
