Matt Holliday traded to the Cardinals

Hope this works. The Cards have no protection for Pujols and their hitting has been anemic as of late.

I'm thinking that the only move that the Giants GM Brian Sabean is gonna make before the trade deadline is the one that involves his bowels.

I hope this works as well! It would be nice if we could afford to get Halliday as well. I'd love to see a starting rotation that included Carpenter, Wainwright, and Halliday. The rest of the NL might just give up. image Too bad it won't happen. image

i am a big cardinals fan but they gave up to much for a guy who will be a free agent after the season. is derosa signed next year or not. it looks like the cards are putting everything they have including there future to try and get the world series. i have a feeling if they do not make the playoffs this year and with all ofthe moves that they are making that this might be tonys last year as manager. next year and the years after that are going to be interesting. this going for broke attitude is worrys me but if we win the world series then it might be worth it.

If Holliday plays as well for St. Louis as he played for my fantasy team, the Cardinals can expect to finish dead last in the division!

I have no clue what the hype is? I agree with above post, Holliday has done nothing...
I might add that he is a great defensive player though...

    101 years.

  • maybe with pujols in the lineup Holliday will produce. Playing for the A's must be incredibly draining and depressing on your soul.

Top of the 8th, Holliday is 3 for 4 and the Cardinals are up 8-1...

    So far, so good!!

but if we win the world series then it "might" be worth it? Might be? It definitely would be. I think this is a great move the Cards. And Larussa isn't going anywhere even if they don't make the playoffs this year. He's a proven winner who calls the shots.

Holliday's fantasy value was overrated, having played in a hitters park in Colorado.

This was yet another Billy Beane (the "wonderboy") deal gone bad.

Oakland has huge, huge foul territory and the ball does not carry exceptionally well at night. Though the reconstruction of the stadium for the Raiders changed things a bit, it's still a "pitchers" park and moving away from there will only help Holliday's fantasy numbers.

During the A's championship run of 1972-74 only one player hit over .300 but their pitching was the best in baseball. If you can name the player that hit over .300 you are a TRUE A's fan (no fair using the Internet).

how was it a bad deal for the A's/Beane? He gave up Huston Street an average closer coming off an awful year whom they didn't really need anyway and Carlos Gonzalez a corner OFer with average power and no plate discipline...Greg Smith is irrelevant. Now the A's are getting back a pure hitter in Brett Wallace to replace Chavez and a couple decent 2nd round prospects. So basically in the end Beane spent a few mill at a chance at a winner which was mandated by A's ownership anyway, it didn't work out, but it's a win for the A's either way since now the A's don't have to worry about Holliday accepting arbitration in order to acquire the proverbial compensatory draft picks when he signs elsewhere. Great deal for the A's.
