Need advice on a way to electronically organize collection

I've been inputting my husband's collection into Beckett's site which is great, because it keeps track of the value, but I hate that I can't print anything off...

Can anyone recommend a good program that'll help me organize the collection, that will allow me to print out the list (and manipulate the reports to some degree -- by player, year, etc) and that (wishing here) includes pricing?

Thanks much

Beckett pricing is to be taken with a grain of salt. They are not what you would call accurate or even realistic. It won't have pricing but I find that a simple Excel spreadsheet is the way to go.

I created a website and SQL database for all Cal Ripken cards, and then just checked off which ones I had and the quantity. Works pretty well. Ok, I'm a huge geek.

Wow. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that's probably not what the OP is looking to do. image

That is awesome, though. I wish I had the patience/knowledge/time/energy to do that. image

Well, I don't know if I have the patience or knowledge, but I managed image It's becoming more than a checklist though, it will eventually be viewable by the public and hopefully a decent resource for Ripken collectors, with pricing, pictures, etc...

For me excel is fine - I also just keep some stuff listed in a file on 'word' - if my wife ever saw what I/we have?

She'd ask for a raise! image

I remember when they sold programs for this kind of thing - I think some have said they weren't very good.

On the web thing - my brother builds simple webs as a hobby - I can't believe I haven't gotten with him on it - would nice to have.

LOL - do her a favor and catalog EVERYTHING... My husband died very suddenly 2 years ago -- 41 years old -- and left an entire room of memorabilia... At least 120,000 cards, bats, balls, jerseys, cuts, etc. It's all organized but nothing was catalogued. Luckily, he was very particular about his COA's so most are matched up but man -- what a chore!!! Do your wives a favor and get your crap in order, k? Trust me on this! When I get to Heaven, I am SO kicking his rear end for this! image Well, that and the garage from hell -- but that's another post!

Thanks for the info, all... I'm handy with Excel so I'm going to start transferring everything there -- just easier in the long run, I think.
  • I've been using "The Card Collector" software for over 10 years now and really like it. You don't have to purchase updates all of the time especially if you collects sets, like I do. You can manually create sets and add to value or change the value when it goes up or down. You also can add error cards, graded cards etc... Check out their website for more details:

I also use Excel, but save myself a lot of work from cutting and pasting info from Mycards. It is only $6 dollars a year or $3 dollars for 5 months for a subscription. They also offer a 30 day free trial.

I set my Excel spreadsheet up to match so it is an easy transfer of information. The site also has prices that are updated pretty often, however I don't use it for the prices so I don't know how accurate they are.

It saves me a lot of time because I dont have to type in the players names.

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

Soonercowboy-can you upload photos? I like that it has card checklists already built in. i've been looking for something recently. I collect both memorabilia and cards and was looking for something that supported both that includes the ability to include pictures and that has fields that can be customized. Ideally, I was looking for something that can be used on either a Mac or a PC since I have both.

I found this site when I was looking into collectible insurance. It has many templates available (not that I have a doll collection!).

    Collection software

i've also thought of just using generic database software, but don't know much about it to know what to choose. I use excel today, but wanted to match the data to the picture.
