Global Authority

Any thoughts here. Would you feel comfortable buying unopened in these new holders?

No, I would NOT "feel comfortable."

Lots of other folks might, though.

    Any particular reason?

I already "feel comfortable" with Steve Hart's opinion, and PSA slabs.

Even if my PERSONAL "comfort" level with Global Authority
somehow increased - if Steve Hart was working for them,
for instance - I would be concerned that the general market
would STILL prefer the PSA slab.

Put in GAI in the search box and go through some of the old thread may help you make up your mind.
I have never bought graded packs from PSA or GAI but from what I have read people here believe that
Steve Hart's is the best at knowing if a pack is resealed. Also from what I have read people here say that
some of the older GAI graded packs are ok but don't trust the newer graded packs just what I have read.

Like I said do a search for GAI read some of the threads and maybe somemore people can post here.

Yea, I've read most of them. I guess I'm coming from a fresh perspective here, which appears what GAI is trying to do. So, in essence, have they gotten better? Have they hired credible pack graders that can be trusted? Has anything really changed...
  • No more GAI. It's GA now.

I feel pretty comfortable purchasing packs in the first generation holders, as I've opened many of them and have had very few problems. Especially when you know which ones to avoid, i.e. "grocery" cellos from the early 70s...I see that Felicia has busted a couple boxes on here with the new label with some good results, but I also know that a slew of fabricated 70s packs were holdered with the new holders, too, though that was one of two designs ago. It's also somewhat disconcerting to see that known resealers sometimes have been able to skip a few of these garbage packs through, too. Does nyone know who is grading for them now? I know Mark Murphy had a second stint with them some time back, but I'm not sure who's doing the authenticating now..

If that is true, and he is grading all packs objectively, that would seem to bode well for GAI going forward..

  • Unsure if he's the sole guy there. He's listed as such on their site and the only person I've talked to over there since March.

Unfortunately most of my packs are gone, but if I were still in the market I would NOT touch ANY GAI unopened pack that was in any holder other than the original holder. To the best of my knowledge there were three holders ... STAY AWAY FROM THE 2ND AND 3RD.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
