What is the worst shipping you've received?

Last night I arrived home to find that the 1966 Topps Pete Rose I recently bought had arrived. But what I found was sadly unfortunate. The Ebay seller bjtransier (I should've known better) only had 5 feedback.
He charged 4.95 shipping, which I assumed at least indicated it would be well packaged. The card was sent in a standard envelope, not a bubble mailer and with only a .44 cent stamp on it. The card was sent loose, not in a card saver I or a hard plastic of any sort. I guess he thought he was creative by putting it between two pieces of cardboard he taped together.
Check out this auction he has listed since I won one of his early ones: New Auction pointing to a PSA graded picture that isn't his card.
Anyhow, it's a shame to see a vintage card mistreated this way.

Is there something wrong with putting a card between two pieces of card board? For lower dollar cards, I'll put them in a penny sleeve, tape the sleeve to a piece of oversized rigid cardboard with two 1" strips of tape on the side, and then sandwich it with another piece of cardboard. However, I always use bubble mailers. Even when I put cards in a card saver, I still sandwich the card with cardboard as I think it adds great protection.

Nope. It just needs to be done with care to assure that
the item can be easily unpacked.
But, it is ALWAYS a mistake to ship cards in a PWE; no
matter how they are secured.

no problem with what you say, especially for low dollar cards. The card I received, however, wasn't even in a soft plastic taped to the cardboard. It was just floating around loose in the envelope, no card saver I, no hard plastic, no soft plastic, just card board on each side of it. If I received the same card that was in the auction scan, it clearly sustained corner damage in transit.
Today I also realized I requested insurance on the card as well. So in all I paid $6.65 for .44 of shipping.
Bought a 1989 Fleer Bill Ripken version for a few bucks. Came in a PWE no cardboard, holder anything. rec'd 2 large creases that were not there before. This is the only copy of this version I've seen.
Here's another one I rec'd. It was a steal for around $5 shipped. What started as a steal turned into a kill.
Also, since he's apparently new at it you might do him a favor and offer him a suggestion or 2 on how to ship...........again politely.
if he refuses then I'd do as Steve suggests.
<< <i>I would email the seller and POLITELY give him a chance to give you a refund on the shipping.

I'm in process on the first part of that. Waiting to see if they refund and I think I was nice about it
<< <i>I recently received this in the mail. It was well packed, but at first I thought someone sent me a wrapped present. Then I looked a little closer.

I'm actually trying to find out the condition of the card when you received it. You may have said that he shipped lousy, but ...

PWE shipping is bad for any card since the card itself has to run through the sorting machine and occasionaly, especially in a top load, it will get hung up and bend everything in the package. I always use top loads to send cards in. Buying them in bulk can cost as little as 4-5 cents and is a cheap "postal carrier" insurance.
