My Vintage Baseball Cards Website

It's been a while since I've dropped in and posted here. So, hi to those who still remember me!

However, I've had a little issue with my website. The host since 2000 (Geocities) is about to terminate its service in October...but on June 27, they unceremoniously tossed my site into cyber oblivion.

The site was located at http://www.geocities.com/chrisstufflestreet/ and I know there are a few collectors here who've bookmarked it for reference. I'll be moving it to a new URL sometime after the Cleveland National but for now, its temporary home can be found here:

Link

Anybody who hasn't visited the site will find some great info about vintage card sets. Anybody who hasn't been there in a while will see that there are some new images; I've started adding images unopened packs, card backs and other stuff as I get to it. Feel free to stop in and visit again.

Take care,
Chris

Just register a domain name with chrisstufflestreet in it - Google will quickly pick it up, if you have some links on there (they'll pick it up eventually without any links) and your customers, when they see the other sight gone, should quickly figure it out. image
  • Thanks for the advice Steve, but I am not going to use my name as part of my domain. Even though I've used it thus far, I think I need to make it less about me. I think adding my name in a copyright line at the bottom of each page may help direct Google my way. Thanks for the suggestion, though. I had been meaning to add a copyright line for a while now, I need to make sure it gets done as I'm revamping the site.

I guess I'll go ahead and say that once it moves to its new host...my site will be expanded to be more of a hobby site, with sections devoted to things like card care, storage, grading, etc. And I expect to add a blog too.

While I'm at it...anybody here who knows CSS terminology? I'm trying to do something and can't find how to do it. If you look at my pages covering Topps sets from 1956-'61, there are images aligned with the text. The text goes right up to the images. I know there's a way to tell a browser to give the text some space...any help on that would be great.

    Great site Chris!

Do you have plans on adding any more sets to the site in the future?

Eventually. There are a lot of older sets that are sorely missing: Old Judge, E120 and E121, 1958 Hires, the Exhibits section is badly in need of renovation, many T and E series sets...and there are no strip card or 1950s Red Man sets listed either. And there are more Topps sets like 1955 Doubleheaders, 1951 Teams and All Stars.

When my site was on Geocities, it got throttled frequently for bandwidth issues; as a free hosting service, there was a limit on the number of pages that could be viewed before it was made unavailable. This really crimped my plans to add more sets once I reached critical mass. Once I move it to its permanent host I'll be able to add more content without any concerns it'll get shut down for exceeding its meager bandwidth.

And thanks for the encouragement to go back and start adding more pages.

I just glanced at your website, and it looks highly interesting - I plan to go back and review it later.

<<< As of December 31, 2008 the Vintage Baseball Card newsletter was retired. Unfortunately, the past host of this site (Geocities) deleted the archives without notice. A blog might show up in the future, so check back to see the status. >>>

One other suggestion if you are at all concerned about this which in your initial post I thought might be the case...list the Geocities URL in this sentence and Google will pick it up and those searching for your site from the old info should be able to find it in a snap...at some point you could just delete the Geocities info...maybe 6 months or so...just a suggestion...do whatever you think is best.

I look forward to reading and enjoying your website.

Server space is relatively cheap these days - $50 to $100 a year gets ya a lot of bandwidth...a lot. image

  • Just an update...tonight I went back in and added some images to more than 20 pages. Most are wrappers and unopened material or display boxes. So if you ever wanted to see what an unopened 1933 Goudey Sport Kings wax pack looked like, or the Goudey wrappers from the 1933-'36 and '41 sets or many of the unopened packaging or display boxes from 1950s Topps and Bowman sets, check them out.

Not selling anything...just want to toss out the info for my fellow collectors.
