I've waited 5 yrs for this copy! Jack Norworth on cover - I'm down to needing ONE copy for completi

This is a great day!

In the last 5 yrs - only 2 copies of Take Me Out to the Ball Game, 1908, have come up with Jack Norworth on the cover - the other was signed and went for way more than I ever expected - it got away....

This one didn't!!!!

As I've said - the HOF says there's 11 variations - I've cataloged 25 and now have 24!!!

I know this is not exciting to card collectors - but for anyone who's going for completion of a checklist - this is monumental!!!

I talked to the HOF a few years back and told them I would like to do an update article as soon as I complete the checklist - don't want any unnecessary competition! I would also like to do something in a national publication.

I have many companion items but I think the original recording by Jack Meeker from 1908 is my favorite.

The original hand written copy of the sheet music is in the HOF - I found it out by accident - while scouring ebay, I found a letter for sale by Norworth where he tells the person where the copy is located!

Well guys - just one to go! image

A very happy Mike!

You bet Nick - but I had NOOOOOOO choice!

Lucky, it went for 57 bucks along with about 5 other pieces of sheet music.

Coincidentally - one of them is a classic! An original copy of the song "Over there" by George M Cohan - probably one of the most notable songs from WWI.

Thanx for reminding me tho! image

Still a very happy - Mike

    Now that's funny!

I sure understand Felicia - I was lucky this wasn't expensive - my pickup of the Nap Lajoie board game was a bit of a killer of the budget.

So, I'm not supposed to buy anything until Sep 1 - now.

I love this project Mike. Congrats on being only one step away. Are you going to contact the Hall of Fame when you finish?

  • Stone, Congratulations, and don't for a minute think your quest is not of interest here. As much as any one of us loves the "cardboard", the other "stuff" really makes for a well rounded collection. And as for the "hunt" , I daresay that it is just as gratifying. Thanks again for sharing.

Thanx for the kind words and encouragement everyone!!!!

    Mike N. - the last one - I'd rather keep quiet - I know that sounds dumb - but I don't want any unnecessary competition - I'm 100% paranoid!

Ross - on the HOF - I wrote them about 2 yrs ago - we exchanged some info and they gave me their scans - I haven't gone further yet - waiting for the final copy and then I'm gonna call them.

I just wonder who out there - if any - is doing this kind of thing? Would be cool to find out if I was a 1/1!!!!

In the old days - if this came up in SCD - EVERYONE in the hobby would know about it!

edit: side thing and OT - in the small lot of songs was actually one that's pretty cool - the sheet music for Over There, 1917 - written by Geoge M. Cohan and it shows Nora Bayes who is the wife of Jack Norworth and is on one of the variation copies I have of Take me out....

This is probably one of the most patriotic songs to come out of WWI.
