Does this slab look tampered with?

Just wanted to point out how easy it is to crack an SGC slab.

I gently mangled this one and it snaps right back together without any major whitening on the edges. I guess that is an old +1 for PSA slabs. They at least show serious whitening when cracked.

The slab does look a little compromised, but I'd be more concerned about the missing card.

1979 Topps #164 Mickey Lolich has a PSA 10 pop of zero. This one looked pretty good and was worthless in it's previous tomb. Figured it was worth a shot for $4.50.

You can crack SGC and PSA slabs open without any tools very easy, and also do this with minimal frosting.

A SGC slab, I threw a 86 fleer common inside for the scan.

Here's a couple PSA slabs I cracked too..

I also Noticed SGC slabs alot of the time will take in water if submerged. I've ran a few tests on some cheap commons that went for .99

SGC slabs are too easy IMO to open. Your test to me shows that at least the PSA slab shows some whitening around the corners and is at least suspicious. The SGC slab does not.

The sonic welded seals for PSA and SGC are not intended to make the slabs waterproof. I don't know about Beckett, their slabs are the toughest out there.

What is the safest way to crack a PSA? Have some cards I want to submit under the $4.50 as raw versus graded review. I worry that when try to pry the sides apart the card will get damaged.

Break or cut off the corner of the slab. Usually pretty easy to pry open with a screwdriver bewteen the seams.

BGS slabs are water-tight. I saw a video once where one was put in a pot of water and another one was submerged in a sink

Yup.. I soaked a few BGS slabs for about a month in a bucket of water and no damage at all..

I also tried with a few SGC slabs and the cards were damaged within a few hours from water getting inside..

what I did was soak them in a bucket of water with red food coloring so the damage could be seen via scan...

Alot of folks really like the SGC holder because of the Black holder and all, but I feel it's the worst holder out of the reputable grading companies every test I tried on different slabs SGC failed...

1) they can be opened very very easy...

2) they are not water tight...

3) the Black gasket can dig into the edges of the cards causing damage (I also have high resolution scans of this as well)

People say the gasket is soft etc. But it's hard enough to dig into the edge of a card and is right up against the edge, which I don't like.

I have an SGC card that has a damaged edge for that very reason. I also have many PSA slabbed cards that have damaged edges from cards being allowed to float around in the slabs.

Does this slab look tampered with?
