    Do you know that phrase comes from coins... I believe the story is... it was someone named Josh Tatum who was famous for gold plating the 1883 without cents nickels. His defense at his trial was that it was just a joke.

    The expression "joshing" precedes the 1883 events by at least 40 years, the first known use of the word in print has been found back to 1844, and it appears to be a commonly used term at that point in time. I had once been under the same impression regarding the 1883 plated nickels from folklore.
