need help identifying an old french coin or medal

recently my grandfather passed away, and while looking through his old things i came across a coin or medal.

It says empereur napoleon III on one side with him facing to the left with the laural crowned head, and the other side says cours d'adultes prix montifault with a circle then in the small center circle, it says M. bour pierre instituteur a. kalhausen then something else then 1866, there does not seem to be a monetary amount on it so i assume it is a medal of some kind.

i can take a photo of both sides if needed but was just wondering if this was something common that could be identified just by the description? it is about the size of a silver dollar and feels and looks like it is pure silver. it is pretty heavy in weight, not sure exactly how heavy.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

please reply to ak1200@movingshadow.com or here. thanks

Yes, it certainly sounds like a medal. Doesn't ring any bells where I'm concerned, but maybe somebody here knows. A picture would definitely be helpful.
