(PICS ADDED) Mark McGwire signed hat - If I'm going to sell, would you spend $50 to get it authentic

I have a Cardinals hat signed by Mark McGwire. Should I spend $50+ to get it authenticated if I'm going to sell, or would I do better just guaranteeing it myself and selling as is? How much would you guys expect it to bring. It is a nice, clean hat signed in black sharpie vertically beside the STL.

The question is - do you think you'd really recoup the $50 to get it authenticated. Since you know it's real, I'd put in your auction that you'd be willing to get it authenticated after the auction ends - on their dime - and if it came back bad you'd let them out of the auction and pay the fee yourself.

I did this with a couple of Unitas mini-helmets I had (at the time it was just $20 per auto and I got it done at a show so there was no mailing fees) and it worked out pretty well. I think I got about 25% more than I would have without the PSA/DNA and the buyer was happy to pay the $20 for authentication.

That is what I'm asking. Do you guys think I would get the $50 back +.

I do not think I would want to go through the trouble of sending it off myself, but I would guarantee it.

I would say no. It seems like alot and its just that much more you will have to get for your item.

I agree with the others - I don't think you'd get it back. Just not enough interest anymore.

I am surprised that PSA said OK on this one?

why don't you simply list it on Ebay, and get [a friend] or someone else to do a quick opinion on the signature. It lets you sell the item, and although not binding, it will give you a good idea on potential legitimacy of the signature.

The quick-opinion is about the most money I would want
to spend on the item, if I was selling it.

A seller guarantee is prolly just as effective.

Thanks for the ideas, guys. I actually forgot about the Quick Opinion. I have actually did this before, and it worked pretty good. I think I will go with that route.

It's legit; I'd list it and encourage potential bidders to use the PSA/DNA service

Got the hat from Shane yesterday, and got it JSA authenticated today by Spence himself in Dallas. I appreciate the quick transaction Shane.
